RPG's + Survival/Horror = Parasite Eve - I believe that explains it a little better.
The Dragon Quest series.
In particular, Dragon Quest 8, which was released a year ago. An RPG with a very similar battle system to that of a typical final fantasy, being that its turn based.

Parasite Eve was actually a good game. Never got around to the second one..but the first one was decent. Its like an action/rpg meets Resident Evil..sorta. You use a gun instead of a sword, and you can walk around, but you can't attack until you bar fills up...You have the feel of FF to it, and a great part is, after you beat it you get to keep your gun from the end to play again!!
If I were a Final Fantasy Boss, I would be named something cool like Super-Ultra-Foxtrot-Omega Weapon or something cool like that...
Square Enix has plenty of good games other than FF, like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Threads of Fate, Sword of Mana, etc.

i think dragon quest VIII and SO3:TTEOT are two pretty good games, only if you dont judge it by every little detail because it makes it just a tad bit harder to beat.. like the saveing thing in DQ 8 how you can only save at churches, theres nothing wrong with a bit of a challenge now is there?
how about Act Raiser...or not...
