ff6 hard mode rom?

I had an FF6 rom at one point that claimed to have been tweaked end to end to be "very challenging." I'd played about a 5th through it and it seemed pretty promissing. Well, several reformats later I'm trying figure out what happened to the thing and whether or not it kept a 'good' level of challenge throughout.

wow, there are quite a lot of hacks/patches out there. I figure'd the "Expert Mode" would be an isolated gem but a little searching uncovered a lot of alterations. Laundry list of them located here: http://www.zophar.net/hacks/snes.html

I'm pretty new to this and there are a lot of broken links and I'd imagine dropped projects. Have any members of this forum perused a fair amount of the hacks and patches out there? I'm wondering if there's some level of expertise out there as to which offer a polished result.
