Final Fantasy III is better than I and II, Final Fantasy VI is better than IV and V, Final Fantasy IX is better than VII and VIII, now Final Fantasy XII is better than X and XI (I've been told. I haven't played XI).
I look forward to Final Fantasy XV.

Haha, i agree with roto13-ness...except that i dont look forward to XV for the same reason that i dont look forward to XIII: its going to be on an uber-expensive console that i will never be able to afford until i'm 30 >_<

With the exception of III, which I have not yet played, that seems really spot on.And considering the technical advances they made for the third installment over the first two, I'd be pretty surprised if I didn't think it was the better game as well.
Pretty much. The only one on that list I could possibly imagine being incorrect is FFXII being better than FFX but then I need to play FFXII before I can make a judgment.
Another trend that seems to be quite popular is the 3rd>1st>2nd cycle.
