Is there really a reason why this was the only one not released a long time ago? I mean........why didn't it come out after 2?

2 wasn't even out here on the Nes. The reason why is that FF 1 was released at the same time that FF 3 was released in Japan, which is the end of the Nes. They were already working on 4 when 1 was realease here so they realeased FF4 as FF2 in America.
