I got her each time with Kamikaze.
I had the same problem. Once I spent half an hour on this battle and lost at the very end...grr. I eventually just had to reload an earlier file and level up. Quistis' Mighty Guard comes in REALLY handy, but make sure she's at really low HP because then it'll cast not just Protect and Shell, but also Haste, Float, Regen, and Aura. Then, just whack away with limit breaks. Try to get Squall's Lionheart, it works wonders. If you can't do that, though, Aura magic (draw from Seifer) and Haste can work wonders. If necessary, use some Full-Lifes. If you have the Phoenix Pinion, I think you can use it (I think it will hit Rinoa though) and he might save your butt more than once after that...Good luck with this nasty!

I used Zell's limit break and Squall's regular attack as I'm afraid I might get Blasting Zone that will kill Rinoa. Please mug something (MegaElixir? )from Rinoa. I found it amusing.
Thank you everyone. I will try some more....
Am I the only one that finds the junctioning system to be a piece of sh*t?

Do you have mighty guard with quistis? If so, use it at the start of the battle. How many Dino bones do you have? If you have enough, refine them into 100 quakes per party member and junction them to Elem-Def. This way you'll absord the damage from Adels quake spell. Also, Leviathans recover and Alexanders Revive abilities are incredibly useful and they'll stay useful 'till the end of the game. Use them. I'd also use aura on some characters. Irvines AP ammo works wonders if I remember correctly.
Also, if you don't understand the junction system you're screwed. Take the time to go over the basic in game tutorials if you must.
ya just gotta know how to use the gf system. i think its way to powerful personally.
look, cast regen on rinoa and junction up for strength, just whack away at her until it over
Irvines limit works wonders here too, throw some of that AP ammo at her. this is the only limit that can target who you want it to hit so its the only one you should use. (except selphies full cure)
thats how i always had done it but i was never a magic user personally
Here's what I do:
Cast Shell on Rinoa
Have all characters absorb Earth element (an easy way to get Quakes is to refine one of the brother's cards and then refine the Dino Bones into LOTS of quakes)
Have the Recover ability to use on Rinoa every so often
Triple Aura on all characters (this is especially good with Zell)
use punch rush+booya
over
and
over.
Selphie's The End works wonders. Just cast aura on her... and hope you get it.
I started up this game again and I am coming around to this battle. Now that I understand the junction system I will keep these tips in mind. I was just wondering what level I should be at for the battle, what HP and strength I should have and stuff...I appreciate all the help and comments.
EDIT: Also, wht HP should Rinoa be at? She currently has about 3880.

Way to revive a dead thread... But since you made it in the first place, you get away with it.
Rinoa's in-game HP is not the same as her HP when she is held hostage by Adel, so that shouldn't matter. But 3000 (especially unjunctioned) HP sounds good at that level.
I remember when I first played FFVIII, I rushed through it, and ended up facing Adel at about level 30, with Rinoa dying all the time because I used my GFs, and having to start ALL OVER because I had no earlier save files...
Being able to inflict over at least 1000 HP a turn with a normal attack is vital in the battle against Adel, so junction high level (-aga) magic, or Death, Zombie, or Ultima, if you have it, to the Str stat; everyone's should be in the 70s at least.
The best HP to have is anything over 2500. Any lower than that, then use Protect and Shell. Best of luck!![]()

Haha yeah, I tend to do that...![]()
Well Squall has around 6000 HP, Selphie about 3500 or more, Quistis is maybe 3000. I think I will be okay once I refine those Dino Bones and junction them to my status defense, cuz that's what killed me every time when I would fight her.
What is up with the charge on the Ultima draw point in Shumi Village? They charge me even if the draw point is "dry." That pissed me off.

Bloody money-grubbing Shumis. They're no different from that fat bastard NORG!A foolproof way to deal with draw points is to look at it and see if there is a pinkish/purplish tinge. If so, then you can probably get some magic from it.
I've found, in Final Fantasy VIII at least, attack is the best form of defense. Junction magic to get the Strength stat up, and use Protect in battle. I really like using the Meltdown-Aura-Limit Break combo with Irvine and Squall in particular.
Yeah, your HP should be fine. Good luck!![]()

Ahahaha. There's your problem. No wonder you're having trouble with Adel. Your junctions suck and you attack with GFs. Don't worry, there are a surprising number of people that do that, especially those who are new to the game.
The first thing you need to do is get some decent magic and have your GFs learn stat junction skills. Get out of Lunatic Pandora and go magic hunting. Having 100 of anything that you junction to stats is a given. You will want Full-Life for your HP. You can draw them from the Tonberry King if you haven't defeated it yet. Bahamut has Full-Life too, but if you're having trouble with Adel then you can't kill Bahamut. The next best way is to mug Toramas and Mesmerizes to get Regen Rings, which refine into 20 Full-Life each. You'll want Ultima and Triple for Str and Mag. Don't get your Ultima from the Shumi Village. It will take way too long to get 300 of those. Well, there isn't really a quick way to get Ultima. You could spend a bunch of time drawing them from the hidden draw point on the Island Closest to Hell, but I would suggest a compromise and use Meteor/Triple/Tornado until you're strong enough for the Deep Sea Research Center. Meteor can be drawn from Ruby Dragons, just kill 1 person (trust me, it works) in your party and start drawing. Tornado can be drawn from Thrustaevis birds. Triple is a bit hard to get, the easiest way being drawing from Odin. If you already have Odin then don't bother right at the moment. Substitute Meteor or Flare instead. You will want Triple for Mag. Meltdown is the best for Vitality, just draw those from Gayla monsters. Reflect is best for Spirit, draw those from Adamantoises. Those are the most important stats. Spd wouldn't hurt either. Junction Haste to that, and draw Haste from Vysages.
If you junction 100 of each of those magicks to what I suggested, you will be able to waste Adel with physical attacks, and you won't take much damage from her attacks. The reason her magic attacks hurt you so bad is because you have a poor Spirit stat, junction Reflect to that and magical attacks will do much less damage. Other than that I suppose you can put Regen on Rinoa, Haste (and Aura if you're still having some trouble) on your characters, and just pound on her with physicals. Putting Meltdown on Adel will help. Good luck!
Hmmm, I am in need of some Auras; where might I find them?
