    I find this very sad.

I......was not even able to finish the game. When I play, I find myself mindlessly hacking away and running into random walls for no apparent reason. I have no interest in it whatsoever. Judging from the pictures/movies for FF13, I'm hesitant to buy a PS3 when it comes out, they honestly should've never changed their main theme, change is good, but too much change can (and proven) be bad.

Isn't saving the world what FF is all about? I mean come on it's called FINAL fantasy

I really like the game, like leveling, and the battle system, but the story is just plain not good, it doesn't grab me I could care less about the characters and what happens to them, and IMHO this is what FF is all about, the story
Searching For everything already there For every thought already known For everything that ever was, is, and will be Struggling Oh how we struggle And the more we avoid it The greater the struggle becomes Until we realize That struggle is a blessing Progressing Changing Evolving Growing From a seed to a tree From a child to a (wo)man From a (wo)man to a spirit To a god fulfilling his plan Purpose No words can describe the unmeaning No beginning No end Just always now Marvelling at the miracleAnd all of a sudden It all seemed to make sense somehow Searching For everything already there For every thought already known For everything that ever was, is, and will be

Per my first post, I can only comment on the limited aspects of the demo still yet.
But it seems a reoccuring trend that some of the people in here like the battle system and most of the other aspects but dislike the story.
While it would be hard to discuss story at all without spoilers, it does make me wonder what could be so awful about it as to turn you away from it.

This game is great. I'm pretty much at the end (I don't have a lot of time to play it these days, even though I got it at launch :P) and I've enjoyed most of it. I will say that once I hit (SPOILER)the Feywood, and until I got through Giruvegan, it felt a lot like pointless wandering, but I liked it before and after that. I even like the story, even if it's not so character centric.

I wouldn't call the storyline awful, there is just nothing good in it. Not like it did anything wrong, just didn't do anything right.

I'm personally disappointed with the story because although it was very unremarkable for most of the game, at a certain point it looked like it had so much potential building up, and then just reverted back to mediocrity.

Personally, I find the battle system least exciting of just about all games; I’m mostly reduced to looking at my health bars during the fight and healing when I’m low. Hypothetically I could gambit that as well and make actually playing battles superfluous. Any system where I'm not actually playing needs some work.

I cannot comprehend why some people prefer the old random battles to the new system. Nor how anyone can be stuck grinding in FFXII.

    R2

Every previous FF involved horrible amounts of grinding because even if all you were going to do was run from battle you still had to deal with the annoying flashy screen of pain. In FFXII you don't have to grind AT ALL if you don't want to. And when you do grind, it's so much better than before, especially if you're challenging yourself and grinding on mobs much higher than yourself. If you can just sit back and let gambits do the fighting for you then you're not fighting mobs that are difficult enough.

However, as much as I don't understand anyone bashing the battle system, I can understand the problems with the story. The story just isn't as enticing as FFIX's or FFVI's. It's not as memorable as past FF's, I'll admit. I think everyone(myself included) was expecting one WOW moment after another, and FFXII's plot is not that kind of plot. But the fault is not with the game but with our expectations of it. Once I realized it wasn't going to be that kind of game I decided to take it for what it was, a more subtle approach to the old stagnant formula. It wasn't what I was expecting, but that's my fault. I'm used to simple, comic, cartoonish plots and SE has grown out of that. I guess SE assumed that its followers had grown up with it and could handle a more subtle, poignant plot.

I think it just outstripped XI as m favorite FF a couple days ago. The combat, story, and everything else just rule.

You'll actually realized that this game take a lot from old Final Fantasy. Some people now have forgotten FFI - FFVI (And FFIX) because they prefer FFVII - FFX and their GRAPHIC. And I can see by your FF Ranking, FFVIII, FFVII and FFX are in your top 3. :rolleyes2

I don't understand some people's hostilities towards the battle system. It saves alot of load time if you ask me. Plus the way you fight is the same as it has always been.. You choose what you wanna do and you fight, the only difference is if you don't change what you wanna do then you keep auto attacking. Sure it doesn't have the same FF feel but it isn't a draw back to the game.

i agree the new battle system makes it easier an if the keep the same battle system for game after game after game, its gets old an boring. I think this FF gives the series a new 'spice' to it. An i like the fact that you can see the monsters in this one. What used to always happen to me wuz my party was almost, no practicaly dead, i jus got threw a boss fight got really far in the game, was headin to a save point an bam, all the sudden i got into a random fight an everyone got killed. An i had to start ALLLLLLLLLLL the way over. To me, stuff like that jus kills the game's fun factor drastically.
    im to cool for sigs.

sounds to me you can't play the other FFs because y'all catch a seacer from the flashing lights

I love the gameplay and battle system, dislike the story. The storyline is just not THERE comparatively to the other FF games. I'm almost bored. There's no backstory for any of the characters or espers. It's more like some new aspect is introduced and seems interesting, but leads to a dead end. Characters are killed off and I don't feel anything. It's like you don't have long enough to form an emotional attachment.

There are at least two points in the game where you have to stop what you are doing and grind just to build levels because the enemy level spike is so steep. You also need to do this to get new gear and spells, which can get expensive.

I have read a lot of help threads concerning the (SPOILER)Judge Ghis fight where people are getting to the (SPOILER)Leviathan with a party under level 10.

Too uneven. Fantastic in some areas, lame in others. A good game but not one for the history books IMHO.
