They didn't changed much of the tradition.
You'll actually realized that this game take a lot from old Final Fantasy. Some people now have forgotten FFI - FFVI (And FFIX) because they prefer FFVII - FFX and their GRAPHIC. And I can see by your FF Ranking, FFVIII, FFVII and FFX are in your top 3. :rolleyes2

Squeenix want to revive the spirit of FFI - FFVI (And FFIX) again! GO GO GO!
