Help me decide: Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360

Oh, wait, most of the 360's visuals only just beat the Xbox's, no?

Only the half-assed ports like GUN, American Wasteland and Eragon have bad graphics. Other than that, the graphics are amazing. A good example of that is Gost Recon: Advanced Warfighter which was actually a port, but apparently it was "refurbished" for four months.

I know it's not all about the graphics. But it does help to immerse yourself in the game.

Well, I just picked a 360 and I have no regrets. Gears of War is quite possibly the best shooter I've ever played on any system. And I hate playing shooters on consoles so that's a pretty big compliment coming from me.

That's not to say that the Wii is bad (it's probably the next console purchase now) but given the library available to the 360 (launch titles have dropped now to $29-$39) you've also got a bit more variety.

Call of Duty 3, Lego Star Wars II, and Oblivion are next on my list to get for the 360.

I'm also looking forward to picking up Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonota.

I knew somebody would respond to my comment with Gears of War. Yes, there are lots of half-assed ports like The Shoeless Hobo said, and some games have even been cut down. Take the latest Pro Evolution Soccer for example - it only has half of the features the PS2 version has. I know the graphics are better overall on a 360, but I'm not too fussed and to get the best experience you need a HDTV which I can't afford.

Plus, I have a fairly decent PC. Dual-core processor, Radeon X800 (though I could get a far better graphics card in due time). I've enjoyed playing some of the 360 titles on it, like F.E.A.R. and Oblivion. Alas, I have to play them at lower resolutions than the 360 and I still experience lag, so I suppose I have little to lose with a 360.

JKTrix, I do really want a Wii, and I've always enjoyed the Zelda games. I have a lot to afford lately, and I'm trying to prioritise. That said, the mere thought of not enjoying a next-gen console this Christmas is awful. I thought Trauma Center wasn't out yet anyway? I'd probably get that... hopefully it's not harder than the DS version.

To be honest with you, I'm really enjoying the DS, and I've ordered Final Fantasy III. I just really do not want to miss out on the next generation consoles. I bought a 5.1 surround sound system a few days ago so I'll be able to use that with the Wii/360, but I just don't know. I suppose I'll just wait and see if Gamestation get back to me on it and make my mind up from there.

Mass Effect, Forza Motorsport 2, Halo 3, Fable 2, Alan Wake, BioShock, The Darkness, Shadowrun, Lost Planet, Lost Odyssey, Too Human, Blue Dragon, Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero 2, GTA IV, Project Gotham Racing 4, and maybe even Resident Evil 5.

I think that's enough to persuade anyone.

The safest bet would be the 360. It's much easier to find, plus has more AAA titles since it's been out a year longer than the Wii. If you are unsure of the Wii, you can track it's progress over the next year and dive in when you are ready. Personally, I think the Wii rocks socks all over the place, but if you're not sure, the 360 would be the safest way to go.
