Default I've been thinking about this for ages.

What does it mean when "you're subscribed to a thread" and a small, white square appears over the name of the thread? I have not been able to figure it out.. so please help me so that I can feed my hunger for knowledge... or something

Basically if you want to mark an important thread. If you subscribe to it, you can click on the UserCP and it will show the subscribed threads. It basically just tells you recent posts in a thread you want to keep your eye on.

And you'll get an e-mail every time someone posts in it. It's a pretty annoying feature.

Yes, it's very annoying. Back in pre-v3 vBulletin, it would automatically subscribe you to threads when you posted in them.

When I started posting here, I didn't know this, so after the first day or two, I was subscribed to a fairly large number or threads, and consequently had a crapload of emails, which was a pain.
