It's the best easy to get one handed sword, and you can use it with a shield.
But the greatswords have high attack and they at least have 8 evasion, some of them even have 25-50.
I would rather take the one handed sword and shield, with augments and the gauntlets accessory, it is a pretty good deal.

Also, the Deathbringer has a KO proc, and even though it doesn't really work much, it is a nice surprise sometimes when you are mobbed and get off a one-hit kill you weren't expecting.
Even when you have Ultima Blade, Excalibur, Tournesol and Wyrmhero Blade, you would still prefer one-handed sword?

No, but unlike those, the Deathbringer is easy to get, and it is helpful when you are questing to get the final weapons.

    Well, that's okay.
I never really bother with 1H weapon, because I want to save some money.

For 1H weapon, I prefer Axe/Hammer over Sword.

I try to have an even spread of steady and burst damage in each group, I don't know how much it matters, though.

Where do I get Excalibur? I know where it is at, but not the exact location or how to get there.

    Great Crystal:

I sucked in explaining, forgive me
    - Teleport to the Great Crystal, from there (Facing Scorpio Gate), take the right path and open Scorpio Gate Switch.
    - Go through Scorpio Gate to reach Teleporter IX. Teleport to X.
    - Take the path to Teleporter XX.
    - Facing Sagittarius 1st Gate, take the left path, you'll be in platform with mobs, continue on to the next platform and open Sagittarius Switch.
    - Go back to Teleporter XX, and enter through Sagittarius 2nd Gate.
    - You'll reach Teleporter XII, teleport to Teleporter XIV.
    - There are two path here, one will lead to Leo Switch, one will lead to mob place. Go through Leo Gate by opening Leo Switch (Don't worry, Leo Gate is located in Leo Switch area), get a treasure, return to XIV.
    - Take the other path, The first two area you come across is just one-way area, so no need to worry, the third part is difficult (two paths), if you reach a dead-end area with treasure chest, that where the Excalibur is, if not return, and take another part.
    - The treasure is random, equip Diamond Armlet. If you didn't get it on your first try, rezone three area and return.
    - You can know that you'll be getting an Excalibur by looking at the treasure, after you've touched the treasure, you'll get something and the treasure dissapear, but if you touched the treasure (And get something) and the treasure didn't dissapear, touch it for Excalibur.

Yaknow, there's a way to get as many Deathbringers as you want for free in the Barheim Passage. All it requires is a little patience, and the completion of the "Dalmasca Desert Bloom" and "Marauder in the Mine" hunts.

Look under the Barheim Sidequest section.
