The original Japanese version of the game if I'm recalled well. Though I can't remember if they made Locke's class as "Thief" or "Treause Hunter". Guessing thief.
As for the original questions, wearing armour doesn't make one a knight, so I'm going with Golbez being a powerful Black Wizard.
