Actually, the northwestern cave is the Sylvan cave where you can acquire the Sylph summon. (SPOILER)It's also the place you will find Yang later in the game.

The cave that leads to the Land of the Summoned Monsters is on a small island in the Underground. You'll need an airship to cross the lava to reach it.
