Gay began to mean homosexual a long time ago, from a movie I believe, and it was used as a sort of code for people to recognize each other since discrimination was so high. They also used to say "Are you a friend of Dorothy's?" And if you said yes it meant you were homosexual (that's where the rainbow thing comes from...Wizard of Oz, over the rainbow, Dorothy, you know).

Anyway, since gay just means happy and is not negative it was latched on to and kept as slang and is now considered a double meaning word officially. Gay as a synonym for unlikeable is heterosexist slang and frowned upon because it puts forth the idea that being gay is something you would not want to be and is an insult.

So, that hoo-ha outta the way, this is like the third post I've seen like this lately. "Not gay meaning homosexual, the one meaning dumb." That sounds as ignorant as "That's so black. Not black African-American, but the one meaning stupid." You have to realize it sort of puts you in question when you run about saying such things. I think I'm more bugged by how socially accepted it is then it even being used hmm...

Phew, was this a rant? I do believe it was, yuck.
