I think Lionhart is an overkill, try Renzozuken and some nice fragrant shampoo & conditioner to get those knots out.

Also, you should use Dax Wave & Groom. It hold's your hair strongly to the extreme, so you should be able to create whatever style you desire from using it.

I put my hair up in Liberty Spikes once. I used beeswax to sculpt the style, hair glue for reinforcement, and then an extra coat of hairspray for a glossy finish.
