Soundtrack question

For those of you that have the soundtrack, which disc do you listen to the most. Since I havnt quite finished the game yet, (SPOILER)just got airship i havnt listened to disc 4 yet, but so far I can only stand listening to the first disc without track jumping, it just seems by far the strongest disc overall.

No Collectors Edition comes with a Bonus DVD with some Artwork, Interviews, clips of the ads and "The History of Final Fantasy". I posted the History clip on Youtube

I don't have the soundtrack but I would be pissed if I had it. It sold for $40 here at my Japanese store and I only like one theme so far: Paramina Rift.

While I don't own the soundtrack to FFXII, I DO own the soundtrack to Vagrant Story, so I imagine the particular answer would be the same since the same composer is responsible.

I don't listen to any one disc the most-I listen to the most sinister and/or interesting tracks in the entire collection and burn a CD of THAT music. Most of FFXII's music is background music that fits the scenes very alarmingly well. I'm not honestly sure if it all stands up to being good music to listen to purely on its own, however. Again, using Vagrant Story as a reference, VS's soundtrack didn't measure up purely as listening music. But in the game... *eyes take on a distant look as I stare off at horrors only I can see complimented by a sinister score of music...*

This soundtrack is really enjoyable. Sometimes it may be a bit repetitive, and sometimes some themes seem to be reused for different cutscenes, but I think it's really enjoyable to listen to with top-notch sound quality.

The soundtrack is disappointing, probably the only downside of FFXII. I do like The Dalmasca Eastersand track though.

Half of the FFXII music sucks, and the other half doesn't stand out at all.

I think for most of the game, after hearing one round of music, I was listening to FFV's version of Battle with Gilgamesh, and doing homework at the same time. That's how uncaptivating the game was.

See, I disagree that the soundtrack is 'bad'. For the most part, it isn't stand out, and if you think that the music should COMPETE for your attention in a game, then this is not a soundtrack for you.

But there is a belief in composition that states that rather than competeing for your attention, the music should accentuate the scenes, and the music in FFXII does that perfectly.

What we have here more than anything is an argument between the two prevailing views of how you write music to scenes. Both views are valid, and both work.

Maybe but here in US there's the fact that this semi-classical easy listening stuff is used here in US by all the call waiting / tech support phone mazes "from hell". This kind of music reminds me of many a day being spitting mad having to wait 40-50 minutes to talk to someone with a brain at Dell, Delta Airlines, AOL, HP and others... Ugh!!! And now 40 hours of this ???? < shudders >

Actually, I don't use the phone very often to talk to companies-mainly for reasons you just stated. Consequently, I'm quite a bit out of date with what they've been polluting the phone lines with... Last I listened in, they were playing the worst of pop culture (that'd be back around 1998).

Aye, nowadays they switched to classical wannabe's like John Williams movie themes and the like. I spent many hours on phone maze hell so this kind of music gives me hives

Don't get me wrong, it is not bad, just flavorless, and brings me bad memories of a bad Indian accent on the other side of the phoneline telling me to "reboot" for the 15th time... < shudders >

See, that tech support thing you mentioned? That was what caused me to learn enough about computers to fix the things that went wrong with it. It started with my PC, and later on, my old PS2 started to die (it finally passed away this year, so I had to buy one of the little ones)... I kinda' thought... "Do I want to call Sony, get run around for a while, be told that they need my PS2 in the shop, and pay them $50 to do 'something', OR do I just crack open my PS2, dust off the lense, and see if it works afterwards..."

Guess which one I did.
