I went with the Esper, as I really don't need the sword that much and it's a lot more convenient than the Paladin Shield.
Sword
Esper
Don't have the Ragnarok yet.
I went with the Esper, as I really don't need the sword that much and it's a lot more convenient than the Paladin Shield.
I took the Esper. Getting the Paladin Shield is too much work.
Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Esper. It's a lot more satisfying for 100% completion to see a shiny new Esper on the board as well as the magic: Ultima.
it's funny how people say the Esper gives 100% completion when in fact it adds nothing to the game you can't get otherwise.

Esper.
sword
hitting the tyrano forest to grind for magic points/exp/items/256 fights for the pally shield. it really doesnt take that long, ive done it a few times on the snes.
i get the shield for the stats and resistances, i dont use ultima anyways
I'm at the end of FFVI now and I took it as teh sword because equiped with Gauntlet it hits for 510 Attack Power. I never use Espers in FFVI, so I'll take the Ultima spell that Ragnarok would have taught me and learn it from teh Palidan Shield instead.
I took the Weapon.

You can steal the sword from one of the Goddess statues in Kefka's Tower. Isn't all this common knowledge by now?
