I'm an atheist, but I still enjoy Christmas. One of the main themes of Christmas is unity and giving, and it's quite enjoyable to give and recieve gifts andget along with your family for one day out of the yearbe together with family members for one day out of the year. It's a pretty enjoyable holiday, even if it doesn't have much to do with what it originally meant for everyone anymore.

As much as I agree with your debates Corncracker (and to be honest,
I agree with about 95% of it) I don't really see that it's enough not to continue enjoying Christmas. Whether you like it or not, Christmas is here to stay, and even if I don't like some of the things it represents, there's no point to become a pessimist about it. I still like Christmas.
But I'm always a pessimist. It's a great way to fill the free time.
My PRO CHRISTMAS RANT
Come on Scrooge we all know Christmas can be more than that so why not let it when everyone is so cooperative in having a good time and celebrating the coming of together.
I'm usually a jerk but like any pitiful fool in this Western Society I enjoy the sadomasochistic ritual of suffering through the embaressing holidays with ones adoring and loving family.
I like the social appearance; the formal and ritualistic 'HowDoYouDo?" The dysfunctional squabbles and family gossip all spilled on the table with turkey, wine and rum cake. The annual "Oh God Roll My Eyes" or the pleasantful little "Why thank you for the card I greatly appreciate the thought." The gorging on Belgian chocolates and the long distant phone calls. The familiar smells of spice and coffee or the remembering laughs, shouts and sometimes even the tears.
Ah Christmas;

I'm also an aheist and I love Christmas. It's paid time off from work and its' a chance to see my family and it's fun giving each other gifts. Is it stressful! Yup! It sure is, especially for me since I'm a parent but I love buying gifts for my wife and kid.
And putting up the tree is fun too! And the lights outside also!
You know, all day at worked I was wondering while these people were singing christmas songs in the halls "What if these people in the hospital aren't christian or whatever, and this offends them." I mean it would piss me off if they bring 4 yes that's right 4 friggen santas into 1 hospital! It's just crazy how BIG christmas is taken for something that most of us don't even practice. Most familys don't go to church anymore yet everyone who is "christian" celebrates it. It's just funky if you ask me.

Although I don't celebrate Christmas, I enjoy observing it.
Watching everyone at work get completely stressed out is somewhat entertaining.
