Thread: The Anti Christmas rant

Default The Anti Christmas rant

Here are all the things I hate about Christmas.

Commercialism
The whole point of Christmas is no longer about family values or celebrating Jesus Christ anymore, but about Commercialism. They push all these Christmas deals on people using the figures of Christmas as nothing more than a cheap marketing play. The Christian family's who claim to praise Jesus on this day don't even think about him, only getting their kids good presents destroying the whole meaning of the holiday. I'm not even Christian and the fact that some people do this disgusts me.

Unnesescary Stress and lack of rational
So many people have mental breakdowns this time of year. They rush to get their children what they want, in such a rush they begin loosing sight of rationality and common sense. Some places Riots will break out over toys and movies and anything else you can think of. Those who are not sucsesfully begin to wallow in the idea they won't be able to give their kids a good christmas because they didn't get that Cyclops action figure or whatever the hell it is, and leads many to emotional and mental breakdowns over something as superficial as a doll.

No Seperation of Church and state
In a Country that is suppose to have a seperation of Church and state, it's quite strange Christmas is considered a National holiday. The only reason this would make sense is if our government is obviously slanted towards the Christian religion, as it is a Christian holiday. The only way this could be made right is if Quanzica(Or however its spelled), Hanuka, and just about any other religions holiday is also made into national holiday. But that will never happen as so many Christian Families would begin complaining that they don't want their kids exposed to "Devil Worship". While only extremists and ignorant fools will say that, there will still be other christians harping on about a seperation of Church and state, blissfully ignorant of the fact that their holiday is still national. The Hypocracy on some of these people astonish me to no end. But the people that bother me arn't them, but the ones who think it should be a national holiday because they are right and others are wrong, and everyone should worship their god and Christmas should be a national Holiday so that all may experience the Joys of their savior Jesus Christ.

My Final Reason for not liking Christmas
My final beef with Christmas is, for some reason, people feel the need to give people something on this holiday. Why the hell do they need a reason to do it. I feel doing it on a specific day each year kills the effect and meaning. You shouldn't give people something because its Christmas, or their birthday for that matter, but because you want to do something nice for them. The feeling of Obligation kills any kind of meaning behind the gift. If you actually need to find a reason to give someone something, then you suck. You don't need any kind of reason to do it.

There is my full Christmas rant. I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas.

Edit: For a topic, what do you hate about Christmas?

I'm an atheist who wouldn't want Super-Commercialized Christmas any other way. I like presents from everyone, and I like giving people presents. But I mostly like getting presents. I do like spending more time with my Mom too, but I don't particularly like spending time with the rest of my family, because they get drunk and obnoxious/mean, and they upset me. I'm not going to lie. I like Christmas because I get presents.

I don't like how Christmas makes people get obnoxiously drunk.

PS: Your first and third points contradict each other.

I agree, I'm a Christian myself, and the fact that Christians are dominant is becoming to the point where if you're not, then it's hell for you. Also, people forget Christmas and use it as an excuse for gifts and profit, ruining it. Buying gifts is not necessary, maybe a picture or something would be better, but in gifts, although it itself is not wrong, but it becomes the only thing that matters.

I agree with the first...about it not being about Christ; I mean take Christ out of Christmas...its...nothing...

but umm; the separation between Church and state..are you sure what they completely meant by that? The school was run by the church back then,so they implemented this so the Government in the future couldnt take over the school/church...(reason for this is bc of the past abuse of the Catholics in europe) Its being used in the public now in a way it wasnt meant to be used.

I believe its perfectly fine that this is a National holiday. (especially with the majority of the people claiming to be Christians) and look at it this way..This country was found on Bible beliefs, so in other words; look at it as an honor to our History)

but other than that; its Christmas!!! Be happy and forget the ignorance of Humanity just for one day; ok?

But it's no longer run by the church, but the state.

You want me to honor our history by supporting a stance that goes against our forefathers wish for a seperation of Church and state?

I'm an atheist. I have no problem with Christmas.

Christmas is a federal holiday. It can and has been celebrated secularly, with christmas trees and santa claus and such, which aren't remotely Christian. If I was around when they made Christmas a national holiday, I would've had a problem with it. But at this point, it's been made into a secular, federal holiday.

Commercialism happens with everything.

And you have a problem with Christmas because other people get stressed out?

If you don't want to buy people gifts on Christmas, don't.

umm actually...Yes, yes I do; if it wasnt for these men, you wouldnt be free to say what you are saying now; so please, honor them, if you cant find any other reason to honor this holiday.

and again; its different than it was back then...what I wrote is what they meant by that when they implemented that law; if they knew this would have happened; they would have made it different.

edit: to the post above the one above me

I can understand what your saying but don't be mad at Christmas. I mean its all people who are making it more commercialism.

Your right you don't need a holiday to bye someone a gift but the gifts arent required. Many people including many Christians and Catholics make it seem like christmas is about family when its not.

Its about rejoicig that baby Jesus was born and that is the greatest gift. We don't even know if Jesus was born around this time.

But there was a pagan holiday that many people celebrated around this time a long time ago. So the profits perpously said that Jesus was born around this time to countradict the pagan holday and convert people to their religion. Thats why Christmas is around this time... but the thing is that I don't care.

Its nice to get gifts and meet up with family but it not what Christmas is about. Soget made at people for saying that Christmas is about family and giving becuase frankly there wrong.

To be honest I don't hate Christmas, it's just there wasn't enough anti-christmas crap going around, and because I'm an ass I feel it was my duty to do it.

I still think I'm right on all my points, but it isn't that big of a deal to me. I do celebrate Christmas, just because my mom does and it makes her happy that I celebrate it with her.

Besides, it's an excuse to get off work or school.

Why would you be mad at someone for enjoying and celebrating Christmas for family time? That's the most selfless interpretation of Christmas, in my opinion. A holiday is not a definition that is given to you, it's something you define yourself by your own experiences and feelings, as you are the one who is celebrating said holiday. Christmas was started due to religion, but it doesn't need to be religious to be celebrated. That's like when I'm in Honors Choir, and we have to sing songs involving the Lord in them. They were created out of religion by the composer, but I can interpret them in my own way, because I don't celebrated a religion, and create my own meaning to them to more deeply connect.

Are you trying to offend someone with your "Merry Christmas"? It's "Happy Holidays", JEEZ!

I don't think about it too much myself. To me, it's nothing more then another day where I wake up and people give me money for no reason and I don't give them anything in return. It's all win-win for me.

Oh people have been bitching about commercialism for decades (see the Charlie Brown Christmas Special from the 60s) and it's still awesome so hush.

My awesome good time with my family over the past four days (and more tomorrow) counters your whining. :P

I prefer the term bitching, but okay.
