Thread: Requiem For A Dream

    Default Requiem For A Dream

Kind of an old movie, but holy smurf, very intense. I've never been so depressed over a movie, made me feel like .

Anyways, it's an excellent flick, if you havn't seen it I definitely suggest it. Very deep movie, shows how smurfed up the system really is.

For those who have seen it, discuss.

Yeah I dunno if you meant to go around the swear filter or not, but regardless, don't do it again. =D -kikimm

I liked this movie a lot . It was pretty depressing, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I give it huge props for having a plot and an ending that leaves a bad taste in your mouth rather then everybody living happily ever after. I think this movie should be shown in high schools. Probly cut down on drug use a whole lot.

The theme song is awesome too.

It would raise up the suicide rates if it was shown in high school.

And I didn't say smurf, I said phuck, fhuck, or ufck

It was nice, but it didn't really scare me away from drugs, it's too much of a worst case scenario.

I have my own reasons for not taking them.

A very intense movie with a lot of disturbing scenes. I'm not sure exactly what message the writer was shooting for with the drugs, but it came off a little more as a warning about the situations than drugs themselves because the situations were very specific in time, place, and the people involved.

    I love it though.

And the "climax" is harrowing and masterful in a way that really strikes at the physiological responses of the body/brain to stimulating imagery...particularly if you're a guy. Activate the heightened state of awareness and arousal that comes from sexual/pornographic imagery and then blast you with something gross and/or disturbing when your mental filter/guard against it is let down.

Or another way to look at it is that the movie pulled off one of the few ways of ruining your Jennifer Connely fantasy.

I'm afraid to watch this movie a second time.

    Seriously.

Don't be, the second time ain't as bad. It breaks my heart how the Wayne brother never gets our of poverty, despite how hard he tried, but due to the fat white greedy white polititions we have a corrupt system.

    NO doubt! lol

..but Jennifer is still my baby.

...ahem.... anyway, I really don't think the movie was about the "corrupt system." Not that it doesn't exist.

The movie displayed a great deal of "ugliness," but it also showed glimpses of the "ecstacy" associated with drugs. For example, when Julie (am I remembering Connelly's character's name right?) looked in the mirror, she saw herself as imperfect; but after getting high her image in the mirror was "supposedly" perfect. and when "the mom" sees herself as a star on her favorite TV show...

I think the message is that, despite the short term effects of drugs, the long term effects and the depths to which people descend to get them and keep them is reason enough to not get caught up in it all.

To sum it up, yes, a very powerful and a very important film. I give credit to all involved.

Brian: "If I remember correctly, this is the Physics Department."
Chris: "That would explain all the gravity."
