why dont final fantasy follow on from each other

I think the writers would run out of ideas. All the stories would take place on one planet, with the same form of magic (e.g. Materia, Drawing, Espers). There's no way the final fantasy series would have lasted this long if everything was tied together. It would get boring. That's what most people like about the series. Every game is completely different. New worlds to explore, new ways to learn magic, new everything! Except for some monsters and the fact that you have an airship.
They do, it's called FFX-2, it's horrible. *kicks who ever's idea it was for a sequeal*

Isn't the Dragon Warrior/Quest series more linear?
They like to start from scratch from every possible angle. They also do it so people like you would ask that question.Originally posted by Joe 886

Yes. They are told in Trilogies from what I have heard. I can not personally confirm this but it is what I have read quite a few times. 1,2 and 3 are a trilogy and 4,5, and 6 are one also. Who knows about 7, 8 and 9 though. Maybe those will be separate games.Originally posted by DJzen

Can you imagine if FF2 was a sequel to FF1? And FFX was the 10th installment of FF1? How many bloody times could they visit Elftown and beat a knight time-lord?
Imagine how many tiems Garland would be miserbly slaughtered. Poor fella.
