Has anyone seen this movie by Rick Simpson?

Rick Simpson was a resident of Nova Scotia. He created the cure for cancer by using a derivative of hemp oil. He went to Amsterdam to receive an award from the cancer society there and when he left, the canadian government raided his house, took all his things and said if he comes back to canada he'll be imprisoned for life. This guy GAVE cancer patients the cure for FREE and he is seen as a terrible person.

What are your thoughts on this matter/movie?

Cause there's still an awful lot of cancer out there.

Because it undermines the entire life's work of a lot of people dedicated to legitimately curing cancer. It's not even worded as an alternative treatment, or slight advancement... it's some asshat vaingloriously claiming he has the "cure" for cancer.

It offends me.

Yeah, I'm a little dubious of these claims. "Cancer" is not one disease caused by one thing. There are many types of cancers caused by a variety of mutations in cells (though a good number involve some of the same ones). I've heard that a lot of things "cure" cancer, but until I see actual studies, I'm not believing any of it.

That being said, marijuana is used to help treat cancer pain, though the US government has appallingly fought that tooth and nail for years. Heaven forbid people who may be dying use a mostly harmless drug to treat their chronic pain.

Hythloday, chill out man. I saw a movie once where some dude killed cancer cells just by hovering his hand over the petri dish they were in. Is that offensive? No, it was a movie. I think the point of the movie Aggy's describing is that the guy is trying to make a real difference and is treated unfairly for it.

You make it sound like this dude just stumbled upon it with your talk of underming other people's life work. It seems to me that you haven't done any digging on what Aggy's talking about so how would you know he's not one of those people?

Burden of proof to provide evidence for us isn't on us here. She brought the onus of truth upon herself when she made the claim someone found "the cure" for cancer through hemp. I'm skeptical. But I'd like to see the research or a youtube clip, or something.

I seriously doubt that he achieved what he claims, but I've decided to watch a bit of this film out of curiousity.

edit: 3 minutes into watching it and Simpson says "Hemp is the most medicinal plant known to man." Seriously? It's chock-full of mediciney goodness? It just cures everything? Already, watching this seems like a big fat waste of time.

I'm kinda dubious about this guy's claims but I'm not completely ruling it out because hemp, apparently, has many medicinal and non-medicinal uses, so it is possible. But I really do doubt it.

This kind of helps explain what the THC in a marijuana plant can do for cancer.

For the people saying i'm trying to "undermine legitimate treatments for cancer", thats idiotic. The only reason the pot plant has been deemed "illegal" is because they know it can cure many things and be used in so many ways. If they deem it unusable we have to go to other sources, not so pure and get even more sick because of the chemicals, all because the pharmaceutical companies want money.

If you watch the movie, you'd probably get certain viewpoints that back up my claim. Even just do your own research on THC, you'll find what i'm saying is true.

The fact that you come to me saying i'm a terrible person for not wanting my relatives pumped with chemicals that in the end, kill them faster, is offending to me!
