In all seriousness, this is super-exciting. I'm going to encourage my son to take an interest in science and engineering so when he grows up he can then develop a safe, faster-than-light travel system so we can check these bad boys out.

The good thing is, we don't even need faster than light speed in order to get more info on these.
Also, since they're so close, we actually don't see them with much delay. 39 years is seriously short in space terms. So with some patience and luck, we might even get confirmation on them within our lifetime!
I can't wait until we find life in the Trappist system and purge them all to make Earth great again.
YE RAGIN', AYE?
We should build a space wall. And make them pay for it.
This is a good idea and I'll retweet it on Twitter.
Part of my wonder if we found alien life would our reaction change if they were
a) technologically superior to us or
b) technologically inferior to us
I think both would go badly as we can barely agree with each other let alone an alien race.
YE RAGIN', AYE?
I want them to find it and I want to see the religious right scramble to try to dismiss or whatever it.
I sort of hope not, because Futurama summed up humanity pretty much:
"Ever since man first left his cave and met a stranger with a different language and a new way of looking at things, the human race has had a dream: to kill him, so we don't have to learn his language or his new way of looking at things."

You know we live in a strange world when catholicism is one of the more reasonable religions these days. Good comeback from the crusades and the inquisition guys!
To be fair, most scholarly stuff in the Middle Ages in Europe happened thanks to the efforts of the Church (I've had a whole class on book history which was NOT part of some weird religious studies, it was a regular secular class and all). Stuff isn't that black and white!
Don't get too excited though, Vivi, since the number of Catholics who refuse to accept Francis as the real Pope is through the roof XD
I'm still personally on board with welcoming the aliens, though, since I think Pope Francis is a swell dude!
Yeah, I do know all of that. But I just have so much fun poking fun at religion I can never resist.
