Necrohol of Nabudis: In the background of XII's story, Nabudis was ground zero for Dr. Cid's research into Deifected Nethicite, which was being overseen by Judge Magister Zecht. The experiment leveled the area and plunged it into a deep and thick mist which attracted all manners of beast and daemon while killing most of the population including most of the Archadian research team. Ashe and her entourage have the option to explore this nightmarish wasteland in order to fell Marks, battle the Esper Chaos, and obtain some of the game's best gear and spells. There are two different entrance ways into this optional area, and the thick mist and ruin layout of the dungeon can make navigating it a challenge, but the rewards are strong here and it's tied with some of the games best sidequests including the Nu Muo Medallion quest and several challenging Mark Hunts. For fans of the original version, this is also the nightmarish zone they have to tackle to get their hands on that fabled Zodiac Spear, assuming you didn't open the wrong treasure chests. Later in the game, you can meet a special shopkeeper who sells some of the best purchable gear and spells in the game.
