I really enjoyed this one.
"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."
It looks like it's set after the Douglas Addams books (according to Wikipedia).
I've never read them, though I've read the entire Hitchhiker's series.
it's not the same story but it's thematically similar and has some of the same characters i think
i have the book as well but haven't read it
I'm afraid it'll ruin the books for me, like they usually do.
I'm gonna read through the books 2 more times, and then watch the show. Then at least I'll have read the series my max of 4 times and it doesn't matter if it was ruined.
Sounds like Hitchhiker, where the theme was the same but the story changed a fair bit depending on whether it was Adams writing for TV, radio, book, movie, etc.
Is this actually an old Adam's adaption of the book for TV or has someone else done it?
As far as I'm aware, this is the 2nd TV adaptation. The first was on the BBC and starred Stephen Mangan. Neither follow the source material to any great degree. Adams had no role in either. 95 percent sure he was already dead by the time they started making the BBC adaptation, and this one's newer than that one.
The BBC one was pretty good, so I'm willing to give this one a shot. Departing from the source material isn't a bad thing in and of itself, just look at Blade Runner
In related news, I think I remember hearing that the BBC are doing another adaptation sometime soon?
