No, I think once you reach about 25 or 26 you should stop playing videogames. I also think you should stop watching movies, put up some mauve wallpaper, and purchase Season 3 of CSI on VHS.

What's wrong with "older people" playing games? So long as they have their priorities straight, as anyone playing games should, I fail to see the issue.

My mother and father play video games alot. In fact, my mom plays more than I do. It's absolutely fine with me.

there is no limit and i think there shouldn't be, as long as it is done responsibly. such examples would be as like a father not influencing his kids by playing a violent game in their presence or just sitting there being a potato. as for me, i give up a major part of what makes me, ME...

Adults shouldn't eat candy. They shouldn't play video games or frolick in the sunlight or watch movies or use the internet for socialization! >=( They should just work and take care of their children and have team meetings about politics. Uppity old people thinking they can be young again...

Ok, I'm gonna put my 2 cents in on this discussion. I'm 39 years old, turning 40 in March. I started playing video games back in the 70's and haven't stopped since. Video games are my life. Both my wife and kid play too! And my wife is 38. I have an inlaw that plays games all the time and he is in his mid forties. I'm currently playing Call of Duty 2 on my 360. I'm really looking forward to playing FF12! But right now I'm mad because I cannot beat that very last guy on GUN to save my life . Gaming is something I really enjoy doing and I don't plan on stopping.
I really would like some input on what I have just said. Should I stop my favorite past time because I was born almost 40 years ago? I just can't think of a reason on why I should.

If older people did play video games the quality of the crap they try and pawn off to us would probably exponentially increase.

My grandfather did crosswords, my grandmother did 4000+ piece puzzles on her kitchen table, my great grandmother played dominoes with a passion.

These days we have video games to occupy a similar role. It's another way to pass the time and entertain oneself, like watching TV or movies, or reading, or whatever. You could even argue the additional benefit of active participation makes games a better way to keep entertained and mentally agile/active than something like TV.

Of course, it can be a problem if it consumes your life. Certainly an older person with a family should not be gaming the same way a delinquent high school or college student does. But as something to do an hour or two or three when there's nothing particularly important going on with your lives playing games is just fine, and I highly recommend it.

And some advice for you youngsters out there:

IMO, one of the worst things that can happen to people when they get older is to believe that what they enjoyed in their youth was lame or immature. I got rid of much of my toy and game collections when I graduated from college because I thought "it's time for me to grow up and be a man now." I've increasingly found myself regretting that decision, even to the point of buying stuff back (at much higher prices than I sold it unfortunately). You obviously shouldn't live in your youth when you get older, but there's no reason you shouldn't appreciate it and enjoy revisiting it from time to time and sharing it with your own children as they share their youth with you in return.

As long as it doesn't get in the way of their life, it should be fine. And it gets rid of stress very well, whether it be your want/need to kill random goombas, simply accomplishing things, or having some fun. And depending on the game, it could keep some people mentally sharp. I'd say it's perfect for older people. o.o
