Northern Lights was good, but the last book -- The Amber Spyglass...it depressed me beyond belief. bah humbugWhat a terrible ending. Will and Lyra >=(

The best book by Pullman is (imho) not any in his Dark Materials trilogy, but from the other series he wrote -- I don't think it had a particular name, and each book could be read on its own without the reader having to read the previous one. The best: "The Tiger in the Well." Absolute class. <3 Sally Lockhart and Dan Goldberg.

I was wondering what the hell you were talking about when you said 'The Golden Compass'. Anyway, I loved these books. I really have to read them again! xD

I read them when I was eleven or twelve and I didn't enjoy them. Maybe I should try again.

Aye, that's the first one, I think. Then there's another one and possibly maybe even another one in the middle (this one I didn't read, I think it has to do with that Molloy !?!? man's search for blah-blah what's-'er-face) and then tTitW is the last one. Best one, too.

Ah yes, i read this trilogy, mainly because my mate was, and being rivals back then, i wanted to read it before he finished xD

Yeah, Northern Lights here, Golden Compass is a lame name.

I found the series odd, but a good one nonetheless

I read them when I was fifteen, I think, and I'd never read anything as brilliant as them before, so they hold a special place in me.

Philip Pullman regrets not having the clout to resist the publishers renaming "Northern Lights" to "The Golden Compass". Apparently it was the same person that renamed "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to "the Sorcerer's Stone".
