Meh. This might sound weird, but I need two things to sink into a RPG: Story and atmosphere.
The story of Prophecies is the most boring script I've ever read. We went there, killed that, lost a buddy, then went somewhere else, killed something, lost someone again, bla bla bla. Unless there's some major revelation in the end of game that makes you go "Wow! That made sense!" or something else in Sherlock Holmes style, I can say with full confidence that the playwrite needs to be thrown out of the window.
Now to the atmosphere: The music was good, but not for a game that you'll play for a long time. Instead of actually creating an atmosphere, you'll simply turn off the sound and throw some CDs into the drive. Nor do you actually meet people. The fact that the wilderness is simply a bunch of monsters that always spawn in the same location was probably the poorest feature. Like "Ok, guys. Heal up, there'll be two more of those scorpion thingies behind that tree there." And of course, the world was not bound together, which was the worst of all these drawbacks. The map sure is useful, but you know what I mean.
Anyhow, I've got an E/R 19, stuck somewhere in the desert and a R/Mo in the Shiverpeeks. I never felt the desire to buy Factions or Nightfall after the first chapter. Though I loved the graphics, they simply didn't compensate the world of single levels and the lack of something interesting behind half a million of killed enemies.
I could imagine starting playing it again, if I’d get a good team of people that you can actually chat with. I’m in the GMT + 1 zone (Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin).
EDIT: The quests were still the worst. Go there and kill that... or... Go there and bring it back. There were cooler ones too, like go there, kill that and bring it back. Terrible lack of innovation!
EDIT2: I think I've repeated the bit about "the worst" feature a bit too often.
