I don't see why. Just because we're not in charge of banning people doesn't mean we shouldn't know why they were banned. Not that I really care whether I know or not. I just don't see the point in keeping it quiet.
I can't really speak for the staff of this particular forum, but the other places I have been a staff member at kept it quiet for reasons of privacy. It is a dealing between a member and the staff. Outside parties do not need to be concerned with it. If a member wishes to know why a person was banned, they can contact the banned person and ask them.
It's more fun when it's public though. My brother didn't do all that faffing around getting warnings etc. He made his banning as public as he could. He was caring for the community. We witnessed his banning, an those of us who are great cried with sadness. An those who are lame tried to cry with joy, but didn't want to dedicate the time to it, because there was brown nosing to be done.
