Thread: Most annoying Uematsu composition?

    Default Most annoying Uematsu composition?

There is no doubt that Nobuo Uematsu is one of the finest VGM composers to ever grace a game. But... sometimes he grinds out a tune that is just plain annoying! Please post your least favorite Uematsu song here, and explain why you hate it!

My least favourite of all time was the music in the Shinra HQ in FF7. There are at least a couple of hours of gameplay in this building, but it's theme is dull, boring, repetitive, and irratating. The drum track was terrible as well; I started improvising drum beats with my mouth to spice up the percussion.

And my runner-up least favorites? Wutia, from FF7; so boring and high-pitched; and Treno, from FF9. I do like Scott Joplin, and this song does sound a hell of a lot like Scott Joplin! But there is only so much Joplin you can take! I began to dread visiting Treno just because of that song!

It's ironic that all three of these least favourites come from soundtracks that I otherwise really enjoyed.

So, post your hated FF tunes here!

^^lol, I quite like the treno tune and the Shinra HQ tunes.

A song I find really annoying is the Hym of the the faith in FFX. You hear it way too much as well and it buzzes in your head like a mosquito. Damn that tune.

I didn't like it that much either, but I loved Song of Prayer~Spira and Summoned Beast Battle.

I also liked the theme "Infiltrating Shinra Tower". Summoned Beast Battle wasn't composed by Nobuo Uematsu, it was by Junya Nakano. My 3 least favorite songs by Uematsu:

3rd: Double Question Marks (??) (FFVI) - this song is just annoying and boring. It has a short drum part to create some variety, but after that, it goes back to the annoying part again.

2nd: What (FFV) - Similar to "??", except it's even more repetitive, which makes it even more annoying a song than "??", IMHO.

1st: Djose Temple (FFX) - Okay, I know this is quite an experimental song, but I just don't like this track at all. The strings in the beginning are quite annoying, and the song has a few random notes after that, and it doesn't really have any direction. The song sounds pretty much like a mess from a chaotic nightmare to me, and it wasn't even designed for that kind of scenes in the game.

There are some FF songs that I think are quite dry, but unlike these, I don't think they're that annoying. "Ceremony for the gods" from FFIX was quite annoying with those high-pitched instruments, but at least that song worked with the comic scenes where it played.

I liked most of the songs mentioned. Especially Wutai

To me the only song that comes close to annoying is another world of beasts FFVI. Its an ok song but its used in some of the longest dungeons which gets pretty annoying.

Most of the FFVIII soundtrack is pretty abysmal. "Blue Fields" probably takes the cake.

I love this song. It doesn't accomplish much on its own, but it's the perfect complement to the story scenes in which it's used.

I didn't like the Mythril Cave music in FFIII (It sounded way off pitch), the Cleft of Dimension music in FFV (it sounded quite pathetic compared to the other Final Dungeon musics from the other FFs), and the FFII Boss Music (the one where you're facing bosses like the Adamantoise and Borghen since it doesn't sound FFish).

That's all I can think of right now.

I agree with the "Blue Fields". I don't think the song is overly bad, but it's an extremely dry song for a world map theme.

Although I can't agree with loving the song, you have a good point there. I remember laughing at some of the scenes where it played, such as when Butz and Galuf kept swooning at Faris, who was sleeping in the Tule inn.

After I made that post I thought "Oh, yeah, the boss music kicks ass." But that's it.

I've just started VII, and most of the music I've heard is not incredibly promising, to be honest. The Wall Market theme bothered me. However, I think Blue Fields takes the cake. Even when I thought everything about VIII was perfect, I still hated that song. *shudders*
I was also not a huge fan of the FFX battle theme. Honestly, I think it totally wrecked the mood on a few occasions. I liked X because it was sort of a thought-provoking story (near the end, especially) and so I didn't quite appreciate the blasting brass music in the middle of the beautiful Gagazet theme as they solemnly finish the last leg of the journey. Plus I just heard it a few too many times when I was trying to power up Auron's stupid Masamune...

Wait, was the battle theme even composed by Uematsu, or am I off?

But I really enjoyed the Wall Market theme! (It's called Oppressed People actually on the OST.) It sounded like something from the Monkey Island series, and besides, it was catchy. Pretty good percussion too.
