I think saying that a homosexual Bond would cause the franchise to lose 90% of its fanbase is a bit of an overreaction. I doubt it would such a high percentage, though I'm sure there would be a negative reaction from some fans of the books and films.

It'd be an interesting idea, but not one suited to the Bond series at all. Far too dramatic a change from a franchise that has thrived on general consistency in terms of what to expect from a Bond film.

Though having said that, we've already had an invisible car, so you never know.

Why are we even considering this a possibility based on this information?

Anyway, I think this is so far from likely, that I'd say it's damn near impossible. Especially considering how much they've changed Bond's character in Casino Royale to match that of the books, I can't possibly imagine why they'd suddenly jump into the opposite direction. With how much of a success Casino Royale was, I can't see any drastic changes like that.

I'm not really sure I would care. It would be pretty funny. After all the years he's been seducing women and stuff, he turns out being gay. But it sucks that everyone wouldn't appreciate it happening all that much.

Oh, I don't see this one happening. The backlash would be too immense for such a thing.

On a side note, discriminating against homosexuals is called heterosexism, while having an irrational fear of or becoming a homosexual is homophobia. I know the term homophobe has simply grown to mean discrimination over the days, and thaz cool, but I have this odd urge to bring it up anyway because I was born with 3/2 of a brain (see what I mean).

Bond is way too much of a lady's man to completely switch sides, if he did then it would go against his character. That being said, the only way I could see Bond having sex with another man was if it somehow became crucial to get something and the only way to do it was to have sex with some dude. Even then, I do not think a situation would arrive or they would have another agent go it or something.

That would be totally cool if Bond was gay. He's seduced enough women in the past, everyone needs a challenge every now and then.

Edit: I don't see why making James Bond be gay would take anything away from the film. People who wouldn't go watch a James Bond film because he was attracted to men are incredibly small minded and stupid.

I'm not a homophobe. There are many problems with this. One being that he has been hetrosexual (or bisexual) in the past. Another problem is that it is a poor marketing strategy. Look at Brokeback mountain, got tabooed (not by critics though) for featuring a homosexual relationship. Also, it would greatly hurt Bond's reputation.

I do not see it happening, and Bond's history does not make it likely.

Weeeeeeell. That's pretty much exactly what happened to one of my mom's friends. He was gay, except his family was very opposed so he never came out, grew up, married a woman, had kids, then finally came out and has been with his boyfriend for some long amount of years now.
