I didn't really know Cid, so I can't say. But this is no great loss. AO stabilized after a while, and the user base is huge now. So, Her Magesty's Agent Umaro's little horror story can be disregarded. spDude knows what he's doing. And this transition seems to be going smoothly so I have no complaints.
