Yeah, you got a point there Monol. But personally I never really understood some things about the tier list and that's why I never completely agreed with it or believed there was a such thing in the first place.

I mean they stuck Luigi in the lower tiers. He's got more potential than that!! His down B is really fast and has high priority over other attacks. And although his up B attack is hard to hit with it's really fatal when it does hit. His smashes and air forward B have good knockback. With all of those strengths including wavedashing (which I never use because I'm against using glitches to my advantage in SSBM) I don't see why they'd make him so low on the tier list. Also, (although I really hate to admit it) they shouldn't have made Link a low tier character. Who cares if his speed is low? He's got a wide variety of projectiles which can easily help him deal damage to foes from a distance. He's also got a really powerful air down A, Up B, and all of his smashes have really good knockback. With all of those advantages he really doesn't need speed. (washes off tongue after saying that) Yoshi was stuck close to the bottom of the tier list when he's got a lot of speed and weight (something that no character has). He's got a projectile that you can practically completely control, tongue attacks and grabs that can easily take care of opponents that are physically attacking you, a strong butt stomp attack that doesn't have much lag, and an extremely high 2nd jump. Even if he doesn't have a 3rd jump his air dodge provides enough distance to get back and can help get you back on the stage floor before someone knocks you off again. So even the low tier characters have as much options for attacking as the high tiers.

That was an inevitability.

And, just as inevitably, a low tier character will still be able to pound a high tier character into the ground. As in Melee every decent fighting game ever made, Skill > Tier.

If you could somehow quantify skill, though, a person who is skilled with Sheik would usually beat someone who is equally skilled with Pichu. Some characters are just better than others. Perfectly balancing everyone is incredibly difficult, if not impossible.

Tier lists are just stupid. There made by the people that only play in tournaments or whatever and they just take the fun ot of the game. I dont care who is on the low tier Ill play as them and beat you sensless. Pretty soon there going to make the whole "What stage you can and cannot play on list." Which is just as dumb. The bottom line is that tier lists take the fun out of melee/fighting games.

Wavedashing is a notorious glitch found in the competitive area of smash. It involves aerial evading right as your about to hit the ground while tilting the stick in a diagonal direction so that your character slides due to the momentum. Characters that have bad traction go farther than others and in that right is more useful technique with some characters than other ones. Its kind of hard to get used to doing in fights or using at all for that matter but its actually quite fun with some pepole (for luigi it makes him one of the fast characters in the game, you can wave shine with fox, wave land into up b with link, etc.) Its a neat little trick but not OVERLY nessicary (there are other advanced techniques that IMO come first)

Ooooh good call on the luigi and link examples evastio. I personally believe they should be higher as well but alas. At least they own at low tier tourneys (to the point where they get banned...LAME!! now thats the stuff that reaaally gets me peeved but thats for another day :rolleyes2 )

I only played at one tournament. I won. :P But it was a pretty n00bish tournament so nobody had really heard of Wave Dashing or tier lists. (I didn't Wave Dash.)

Just playing for the hell of it is SO much more fun.

Actually, tournament play is like playing a dumbed down version of the game. There are only a few stages, some characters are banned, and there are no items. Cutting stuff out of the game isn't fun. :P

No playing a timed stock match on fourside against a fox or peach isnt fun. Playing a samus on corneria isnt fun. Playing on brinstar depths isnt fun lol

Playing with items and having a bomb land infront you and forward smashing into it and costing you the match ISNT fun.

If you wanna play for "fun" then go ahead and do what you will.

But some pepole actually care about there skill and find it "fun" to get better and play other pepole who feel the same way.

I tend to find that hilarious actually, even if it's me. Then again I'm like the antithesis of competitive "must win!", so yeah.

I really dislike the tournament play style. The game is built around nutty randomness and dicking around and having a blast. Tournament play tends to gut the enjoyment value of the game. One can only play 1v1 no items Final Destination so many times.

I love items. I always find it funny that when you're trying to get an item from a crate, it always explodes on you!

How so? The only thing I don't like about him so far is his speed (which should've been at least higher than Jigglypuff's or Peach's). He's a character (that isn't 3rd party) that I was really hoping would be playable in Brawl and he finally is. And by the looks of those videos, it looks like he's got a lot of potential.

I love how goofy he is but the fact that he can kill mario at 17% well :rolleyes2

Sakuri certainly had a weird vision when making this game...oh well im very happy with the way things are working out so far. I actually enjoy everyones fighting styles alot except pit. Hes the only character im not really looking forward to playing (but who knows he might be my new main yet i doubt it ) but other than that things look good.

I so hope dedede has his american voice actor from kirby super star
