Thread: FF7 PC "Please insert game disk" but it's in there...

I just did yet another clean installation of FF7, and before running any patches or anything, I used a no-CD patch (Final Fantasy 7 v1.0 ENG by The Brain - LXT) and the program told me that the ff7.exe that I just installed is not valid. It says that it's already been cracked, or is from a different version...?

Oh, and I only have one CD drive (actually, it's a DVD drive... that shouldn't matter, should it?)
Are both computers using the same drive? Or do they both have their own DVD drive?

You're right, it shouldn't matter, but if you can find a simple CD drive, it's worth a shot. If not, then try the no-CD patch. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

no-cd patch doesnt really do anything to the game, it is a patch given out by the producer(at least the original is.. usually), because they know its no use to stop it. Because you have the original cd in your posession, you actually have, prob one of the 0.1%, the right to use it. These patches exist because of these problems.

So dont feel bad about using one.

Changing the video directory won't change the Data Path.
    Open regedit.
    Navigate to Squaresoft, Inc.
    And Final Fantasy VII.

Check "DataDrive" is set to the CD drive you are using.
If that is right and it still doesn't work, trying making images of each of the discs with ISOBuster, downloading DAEMON Tools and mounting the image to a virtual drive, then going back and changing "DataDrive" to the virtual drive letter.

It's got pros and cons, it's a bitch to get to work properly, even glitchier than the PSX version... but, it looks a LOT sharper, and you can do all sorts of amazing stuff to it - the guys over at Game tweaking on Qhimm have done some incredible mods.

Namely the Sonic patch. Read up on it =]

Except I don't have a virtual drive, and the cost to get one would be about the same as buying the used PS version. I'm not saying I don't want the original PS version, but I got the PC version for free, and I want to see if I can get that to work.

And I have done all of the above (minus anything to do with the virtual drive part)

EDIT: Forgive me... I didn't know DAEMON tools was also a free virtual drive...

Both of these computers have their own CD drives... the one with WinMe on it is just a plain quad-speed drive, and the one on my XP comp is a DVD-RW drive.

Well, I've created a virtual drive, created a disk image, mounted it all, changed the registry, and still came out dry.

During the creation of the first disk image file, however, I got all the way to 99%, and a message came up and told me it could not read from sectors 268308, and 268309. I've cleaned the disk and it still says that. I can't see any scratches or other marks that would prevent it from being read. I think I just may have a corrupted first disk.

I was able to create an ISO from disk 2 just fine... however, I still get the message!

Wow, that is an incredibly large amount of work and time that I'd rather not spend. As a free user, I must wait 100 minutes between every download, and can only download one thing at a time, and there are 12 parts to download... Not to mention it won't let me log in as the guy (crook) who provided the links, because the password he gave is apparently, incorrect.

    Thanks, though.

ill find a megaupload one then :rolleyes2 , takes too long, just do it by torrent.

besides, you can screw around with that thing for another 2 days, or just dl an ISO of disc one(450 or so mb) which would take a couple hours by torrent.

Well, I talked to my friend. He's letting me borrow his PS version, so I'll be able to play the game, which is all I really wanted to do in the first place.

Thank you all so much for your time and help, even though we could never come to a solution. I would still like to know what the problem is, just out of curiosity, but it's fine, I guess.

Try the guys at Qhimm.com , they know the PC version inside out so will probably be able to help you a bit more.
