I'm not even gay and I have a crush on a minor! Time to join the Church, I think.
But the church demands you touch minors. It's in their doctrine.

Yes! I read that a while back.

I so wish some stupid Twihard would attack me, I'd be well within my legal right to knock them out.

Most of those are so completely outrageous I doubt their truth.

I need to find my run-in with a crazy Twihard. I got banned form an LJ Twilight community for stating that I didn't hate Jacob. It was pretty crazy.

It was pretty entertaining, but still felt like a poorly written tween film to me!

The first one was awful though. Really, really awful.

Saw it last night. About what I expected.

It tries to emulate Romeo and Juliet, but it has much more in common with Wuthering Heights, especially in the way the leads resemble Heathcliff and Catherine, right down to their less savory qualities.

So long as it is viewed as entertainment, then it's harmless romantic escapism. But I hope the viewers won't take this as a serious model of a healthy relationship. I'm not trying to slam this series per se, since much has been written in the same vein for centuries.

Jacob the only lead I felt much sympathy for, since much of the suffering of Bella and Edward are brought on by themselves (again, similar to Heathcliff and Catherine). Jacob would be a better choice for Bella, but I think he deserves someone less co-dependant.

Have you read the books? I only ask because the author actually uses the Wuthering Heights comparison a LOT and it's neat that you noticed the parallel even though the movie tried to pass it as a Romeo and Juliet deal. Bravo.

Also, yes Jacob is sympathetic character in these first two books. After I read New Moon I was leaning towards him... then in the next two books he proceeds to act like a total ass and an overly aggressive (SPOILER)mouth rapist. Stupid Jacob xD

I'm going to uselessly point out that each installment in the saga is kind of geared towards a classic novel. I think it was the first one that was geared towards Wurthering Heights, the second Romeo & Juliet, and I don't remember the rest. Or maybe the first was Pride & Prejudice and the third was Wurthering Heights. Something like that.

And I agree with your other points entirely.

Thanks. No, I haven't read the books, but I saw the movie version of Twillight to prepare for this.

I read WH in high school and there's a BBC adaptation that I really love. It did what most previous adaptations failed to do: complete the story. Most versions end with (SPOILER)Catherine's death, and cut out the way (SPOILER)Heathcliff spends fifteen years wrecking vengence on everyone else until Catherine (II) and Haerton redeem the sins of the whole family.

    A couple of neat things:

    1) Gratuitous beefcake. Not that it's my thing, but I appreciated the symmetry of objectification. Fair's fair after all.

    2) The Wilhelm scream in the action movie-with-a-movie was awesome! In fact the whole action movie was hilarious with just the dialogue.

Jane Austen must be rolling in her grave over the fact that Meyer thinks her books have anything in common with Pride and Prejudice.
