I think out of sake of being "realistic" . . . Dragon Quest does it, and so did a pen-and-paper RPG I once did for a couple sessions. Or it might be that having unlimited amounts of spots is too "easy" or something. I prefer the unrealistic and "easy" unlimited inventories myself.

Actually there's never been a Final Fantasy game like this, Each warrior can only carry 15 items with them, which includes equipped gear and spells which is blows any Mage badly. Also, You may choose to cast "Cure" but you can't select it on your partner because it has an AI-controlled so spells doesn't always work out as you'd hope. It is
designed to appeal to DQ9 fans not FF fans.

I wish they made FFV remake
