I don't remember him using Scathe but he does hit hard, he mostly tries to overwhelm you with Poison and Sap as well as having an endless horde of flans that beat the crap out of you like most of the mid-tier Espers do.
You'll need an effective crowd control ability so I hope you have a few of those Warp Motes.
