As much as I love this theory, the developers commentary states that (SPOILER)Caroline only became used because they didn't want to employ another voice actor to create someone for Cave to bounce off of. So then, when using Ellen, it created an idea for GLaDOS' backstory. So she wasn't even invented when they made Portal
