Final Fantasy VII might be Star Wars!

But chances are it's not.

There's actually hardly anything, if anything at all, that could be legitimately tied into Star Wars. But, by using the power of imagination...

... I've found a few things that should prove pretty entertaining.


Red XIII is Darth Vader

You heard me right, friends! Red XIII is none other than the dark father. Reasoning? I don't need reasoning! But because I am a benevolent Guardian I shall oblige.

Red XIII's true name is Nanaki, an anagram of... ANAKIN!

Another interesting thing is that they both have scars over the same eye.

It has also been said by Star Wars and Final Fantasy enthusiasts (and also by a certain thunder stealing thread ) that Red XIII is a shout-out to Luke's original X-Wing squadron, Red Squadron, but I personally think that's a stretch. That's like saying Cloud is Luke just because they're both blonde.

Cloud is Luke

Because their hair... defines them. "That spiky haired guy..." "That blonde kid with the Wookiee..." Ya dig?

Also, Cloud's ultimate weapon is strikingly similar to a lightsaber.

Well, you can't see it there, but it glows in the game and looks like it's pulsing energy. Very lightsaber-like.

The Lifestream is The Force

Both are unlimited(ish) amounts of energy that can be channeled to unleash devastating power.

And, unfortunately, we have our finale up next. There really wasn't much I could do with this game, but I saved the best for last. This event involving Biggs and Wedge is almost verbatim what happened in Star Wars. Almost is the key word there.

Here we see Wedge hanging back from going any further towards the main goal of the first mission in the game, to destroy the Mako reactor. He says he's setting up a bomb, but I think he's making sure he stays alive.

And a little later we see Biggs, hanging out with you. It seems he wants to join you in your quest to lay waste to the Mako reactor.

... Or not. Maybe he just wants to BS.

SEEMS FAMILIAR THOUGH!

Note: Events may or may not have happened as portrayed.

See what I'm saying? Almost the same. Well, maybe not right there, but if you know your Star Wars then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I think if we combine them all, we have Star Wars in its entirety. The pick up with Nanaki is actually pretty sweet

I am surprised you didn't mention something about Shinra being the Empire and the Mako Cannon (Sister Ray) being the Death Star.

Didn't you know about putting the first "N" of "Nanaki" at the end of the name to make it "Anakin"?

And Nanaki is not Darth Vader - of course you obviously just mean his name - Sephiroth is Darth Vader. The hero who works for the mighty Company (Empire in Star Wars) becomes the ultimate villain. And Kefka, the right hand of the emperor is Darth Vader. And Golbez ist Darth Vader. Not to forget Biggs and Wedge appear in Final Fantasy VI as well and the "X-Fer" magic which is called "Death Star" in the japanese version.

Et cetera. But really Star Wars-like is Final Fantasy XII.

To be perfectly honest, I don't find any aspect of VII, or any of my other comparisons other than XII, to be like SW. Sephiroth as Vader is a huge stretch. They both wear black, they're both feared warriors, they both went rogue, that's about it. I could find some wild ones if I cared enough to look deeper, but it's just for fun.

And yes, I did know the Anakin-Nanaki trick. I did point it out after all.

Cloud is gonna feel both immeasurably good and yet infinitely bad after that night.

I always thought FF2 was more like Star Wars.

Evil empire building a dreadnaught (the Death Star), which you hafta sneak onto to save a princess (Hilda/Leia). And Leon's role is similar to Darth Vader's.

Cait Sith is a machine with a human controlling him. Much like Darth Vader is much machine with a human control (Anakin). Another thing is that they are both on the enemies side and betray their loyalty.

The black and white materia is the light and dark side of the force. They go to battle and the good side wins.

Darth Sidious and Sephiroths last moments were a lot a like as they both fell down a huge hole.

Barrett would obviously be the leader of "Cloud" City... Lando Calrissian... due to them being the only black men in their respective universes...

Yuffie would be Jar Jar Binks due to her being an annoying little runt.
