...what... how do you "survive" being gay? Gunshots and cancer can kill you. So those survivors actually survived something. Being gay cannot kill you, or even hurt you. It might cause other people to hurt you, to kill you, and you can survive those attempts. But one's sexual orientation is not at all detrimental to one's health any more than being left-handed. So while you might realize that you aren't gay, just as you might realize you aren't straight, it's not something you "survive." It's something you are. Or aren't. or a little of both.
