I find it curious you'd feel anyone else is overly anal about rep considering how much thought you've put into giving out the points yourself. You made a post saying you felt it would cause a problem. BoB has made no comment, even after I welcomed his input. I guess he's not too concerned. Now you've made a post about not wanting to feel like you "owe" someone something. It's part of a harmless game, not extortion. You're rewarding someone for figuring out your puzzle. A fun little tip of the hat.

I've created a game. It has "rep" or points. Lots of games have points. It's rather common. You're within your rights to not give him a point for guessing your reference, and your'e welcome to play, but it comes across as a little sour.

If BoB thinks someone is earning too much rep, or some other issue, I'll change the rules from there. I don't want to start an argument. I just shared my opinion since you have shared yours. I personally don't see what the big deal is.

    I'll give Nuke his rep.

EDIT: Nuke already has a point. I assume it was you. Thank you. If you aren't comfortable with rep from here out, I'll give it to those who guess your puzzle. Deal?

Wait, what? No need to get defensive. I have no problem with the game itself as it's being played. My post was primarily in response to a couple of posts that were clamoring for other people to give their "owed" rep (I jokingly made an earlier post calling Cim "rep Scrooge" entirely facetiously, but it looks like you and maybe fiery were serious). They are not obligated to give out rep. I have no problem with that being the general standard that others voluntarily abide by (and I have given out rep to those who guessed mine -- in one case for finally getting my first reference, in the second one for getting it surprisingly quick), but to me it's a bit much to be harping on people for not doing so.

Sounds good. I wasn't particularly upset to begin with. It was more that I was confused on what the hang up with giving out points for correct guesses was all about. It had come up twice.

The previous posts made it seem that your issue was with a game that demanded you give out points to the winner. That's why I stated many games have some form of point system. Since you made no mention of it actually being an issue with the people demanding their points, I had no way of knowing that was your real concern.

Now it's cleared up. Just so everyone is aware, you don't have to give out rep if you don't want to. Raistlin makes a good point that no one should feel pressured. It's just something to make it a little more "high stakes". Everyone is welcome to play.

I would ask for the sake of tact that if you don't want to give out rep for a correct guess, you don't complain that someone didn't give you rep. (No one has done this. I'm just thinking of possible scenarios)

Some one figure out what the hell Jeff is referencing, because I'm out of ideas.

Sounds good, sharky. Me, I think this highly entertaining game is more than interesting enough without any additional stakes needed.

And I think if any form of "polo" was the answer, that Proto would have given it to Boobies over there first. xD How about... POEker?

    Poker isn't a sport!

I think (if that isn't right) we need another hint.

This thread already has the most posts of my entire EoFF career.

... is this a reference to D-whatever Poe, the big rookie DL? If so, that's really obscure for this thread. xD

No, it's a reference to something in the NFL, which is sports related! Think!

Final hint. Maybe it's a team?

Raistlin got it. :] Edgar Allen Poe's wrote the Raven which inspired the name for Baltimore's NFL team.

I apologize if it was a little tough to figure out.
