Being December, the month of Christmas, (which for me has always been one of the most romantic holidays) I’d like to start my speech with a line from one of the greatest Christmas love songs of all time;
“I’ve got a feeling, this years for me and you.
So Happy Christmas, I love you baby.
I can see a better time, when all our dreams come true.”
Yes, that is in fact The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’, which I suppose is a rather unconventional love song, but then, our Cutest Couple nominees are unconventional too. Meeting your spouse on the internet is a relatively new concept, and so much pressure is put onto those who decide to start a long distance relationship, in some cases without having physically met one another.
These couples face a lot of adversity and negativity from people unable to understand how these relationships can work. It is undoubtedly difficult to maintain passion in a long distance relationship. Now I’m not trying to say that Shorty and Rantzien’s whale-sex role playing is a… um… bad thing, I mean different strokes for different folks and all….
That said, nobody can deny that these types of relationships are extremely difficult, testing and require some of the most patience in the world. Everyday people are breaking up and yet these guys are all holding it together better than the couples who met at the local coffee shop, or at work or by any other ‘conventional method’ and for that I have nothing but respect and admiration.
These are couples who have been pushed to the limits, and are stronger for it. Inspiring myself and others that, goddamnit,
LOVE CONQUERS ALL!
This year has been big for the EoFF couples! We’ve had the marriage of Del Murder and Miriel, which looked like a beautiful ceremony, Fujiko moved in with o_O down under, I’m my own MILF and Pike…. Um… probably clocked in a lot of vidya hours! Kalilung and Madonna have made it a solid 4 years of marriage! Loony BoB and smittenkitten are due to be the next married couple on the block, and Rantz and Shorty are going to spend their Christmas together this year, having a whale of a time I’m sure….
Finally, I’d like to say thank you to our final couples and to all the couples who didn’t make the nominees, for inspiring us all, and reminding us about love and proving everyone wrong in the most difficult of times!
“Through the years, we all will be together, if the fates allow.
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow, and have yourself a Merry Little Christmas now”
