There's some info on them in this thread. We haven't actually seen one in the series yet so it's not surprising that you'd forget they exist. I'd forgotten they existed too until I stumbled across this theory, tbh.

Spoilers about what happened in the TV series I can read as I've seen all of the TV series so far. Spoilers about the books I don't want to read because they could reveal information that will ruin the future of the TV series for me (and, should I bother reading more of the books, obviously it will spoil those too).

Also, if they were one and the same then people wouldn't keep going around telling me that the books are different after the first season and that I should definitely read the later books...

walking dead is regularly available for piracy around 7 PM PST the same evening. game of thrones will likely be just as easily obtained.
