im actually a bit annoyed that all the sudden ALL the fairy tales have to be 'pimped' into tough action movies (i still hate kirsten steward for raping Snow White, that was just horrible)
You know I wouldn't mind a gangsta version of little red riding hood, but it'll have to the Darkstalkers version of her, B.B. Hood (Bulleta). If Chloe from Kick-ass was still young enough to play the part I would choose her for the main role.

    Modern Times - 4/5
It dragged at times but was enjoyable overall for a silent film. Chaplin was Chaplin, but it was the girl's performance that caught my eye. Felt like I could hear all the words being spoken by the end of the film and that can only be a good thing.

That's really a great movie. I love it. I'm not a big fan of silent films, but that one's special.

Dredd - Oh my, what a movie. So SO fun to watch. It knew exactly what it was and wanted to be, and it did it perfectly.
This was one of the most entertaining action movies I've seen in a long time, and the villain of the movie did a fantastic job making you hate her guts. Was it a bit cheesy at times? Well... YEAH, but that was part of the fun. It felt like an 80s action movie, and hell I'd even say it did it better than a ton of the movies back then. Heck, it did Die Hard better than the most recent Die Hard.
Fantastic popcorn flick, and I should also say it's extremely.... EXTREMELY violent in the most beautiful way.

    Highly recommend it. Twa-twa-twenty/Dredd
(By the way, I'm referring to the most recent one. Not to the one with Stallone that never happened. )

"Inhabitants of Peach Trees, this is Judge Dredd. In case you have forgotten, this block operates under the same rules as the rest of the city. Ma-Ma is not the law... I am the law."

    I jizzed epicness.

This. The violence in that movie, hard as it may be to believe, really was a thing of beauty. And it was actually made better by the 3D when I saw it in theaters. I can't think of any other movie ever that was actually enhanced by the 3D.

Moonrise Kingdom-4/5-She stabbed me with lefty scissors! Nuff said.
    Forward, the Light Brigade!'
    Was there a man dismay'd?
    Not tho'(though) the soldiers knew
      Some one had blunder'd:
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
    Into the valley of Death
      Rode the six hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of Hell
      Rode the six hundred.

Was great until the ending, which I felt didn't resolve the story in a way that I would have liked it to. Sadly, an unsatisfying ending is rather unforgiveable in my perspective and that's the end of that, I suppose.
That's really the point of the ending, though - there's no resolution, no happy-go-lucky feeling to walk away with. Just "That's Chinatown, Jake." Brilliantly executed noir in my opinion, totally caught the sense of hopelessness that it needed to.

I rewatched Superbad yesterday for the first time in a while. I think when it came out I was amused at how much it reminded me of the interactions I had with my friends in high school. Now it's like... holy god I was that awkward? When I got past that, though, I saw it's still a really solid comedy, though it drags in the second act; no high school adventure-comedy needs to be a full two hours. Seth Rogen and Bill Hader are great in supporting roles, and as much as I like Rogen, I think I liked it more when he took the backseat and let an ensemble cast get more of the gags. Good movie, though - I'm home for surgery recovery right now and it made some great comfort food for a sick day.

I get that it was intended that way, but it doesn't make for good entertainment in my books. This is the reason I don't like a lot of otherwise good movies. Different movies will give you different kinds of emotions at the end. A sense of hopelessness can indeed be one of them, and there are movies that do this well - unfortunately I can't reveal which ones they are without spoiling them by saying they have an ending that doesn't work out in favour of the good guys. But a sense of dissatisfaction? That's something I can never view as a good thing. I am not satisfied with the ending, therefore I am not satisfied with the movie. Speaking of which...

    Casino - 4/5
Okay, maybe that's harsh, the ending wasn't as unsatisfying as Chinatown by any means, it was a lot better (if not awesome). This film reminded me (for obvious reasons) of Goodfellas, but it really did feel like a poor man's Goodfellas the entire way through. I really enjoyed the whole thing, don't get me wrong, but it's just not a 5/5 movie. I think it was very interesting how it all played out, but in a lot of ways very predictable and at times I must concede it felt like the film was sitting in the same state for some time, repeating itself on occasion. Despite that, it was a very good movie. De Niro, Pesci, Stone, Vincent - all of them great. Scorcese, great. The plot, very good. The ending, satisfying. I don't know what would have pushed this movie into a 5/5, the kind of movie I would go around insisting people watch, but it just isn't Goodfellas. And that's not an insult - Goodfellas is just that bloody good.

I don't get the Dredd love, apart from a few pretty scenes. I just don't.

    Maybe I'm just disappointed that there's no super-awesome Dredd+Bones pic-meme.
Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not the law.
My dear girl, I'm the law. When I peek, it's in the line of duty.

    I dunno.

    Just...something.
