It is shown in Dissidia.
(SPOILER)The Warrior of Light obtains his crystal in Dissidia and the game ends with the beginning of the original Final Fantasy. We must also assume that the Warrior of Light splits into four different bodies whilst approaching castle Cornelia.
It all makes sense now...
