Ash is pretty unremarkable in this movie leading me to believe that he's only in the other movies because Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi are friends.
One of my roommates was actually reading a book about the making of the original Evil Dead, and I think I can understand why Bruce Campbell was kept around. Everyone had to work on Evil Dead on a really low budget and in pretty bad conditions. As they filmed at this cabin, everyone had to stay there, but they did not really have anything set up for all of the cast and crew to sleep and such. Before the film was finished, everyone quit except for one camera man (I think), Bruce Campbell, and Sam Raimi. So they had to rework the film with the fact that they now only had one actor to work with and no one else. I think it would be interesting to see how the film would have turned out had everyone stuck around. It would still not be fantastic I'm sure as Sam Raimi was still pretty young and inexperienced, but I heard he still had some genuinely brilliant scenes in the movie all things considered.

Primer confused the trout out of me at first. I had to watch it like three or four times before I understood it. (if you want I can try to help clear up some confusion)

    Tai Chi Zero:

From the title alone I knew what to expect of this movie. I went in expecting cheesy over the top action... and by god did I get it.
What I didn't expect was an abundance of VERY impressive action sequences, a solid sense of humor, and creative cinematography.
Was it a good movie? I... I don't know how to answer that. I had a TON of fun watching the movie, and it was very entertaining.
I'm sure everyone had a blast making this movie and it really shows throughout. I definitely recommend checking it out if you like martial arts movies in general.

I won't rate this movie as I really don't think I can. Just know that I had a great time watching it.

    When Harry Met Sally

Have never seen this movie before, but I absolutely loved it. It was funny and cute and all the awesome things I like in a romantic film, whilst not being overly girly. Would watch it again.

Recently, I finally got around to watching 12 Angry Men. I know, I know, I'm a failure as a lawyer. But I never had it as a priority because it's ancient (1950s black and white), and so, despite its hype, I didn't expect much out of it.

I freely admit I was wrong, and I was thoroughly entertained. It was relatively short (~90 minutes), and it was fascinating to slowly learn about the actual events through the lens of a jury deliberation room. There was a nice variety of characters in the room, and the movie did a good job with each character's personality, showing exactly why each character was making their arguments or votes. 12 Angry Men deserves its reputation.

EDIT: If I had to rate it... boy, I dunno. I guess a 7.5/10. The brevity limited its impact some, but that might be considered a plus by others.

Yeah, it's probably my favourite B&W movie, and I've seen a fair few of 'em now.

    Blade Runner (Director's Cut) - 4/5
I'd seen Blade Runner a long, long time ago but I couldn't remember much of it whatsoever, so I've never had it listed as 'seen'. Got around to it yesterday, and was really pleased with it. It never had me on the edge of my seat at all, but it was really interesting and engaging all the same, sort of like an Isaac Asimov short story. I really loved the ending, and also really enjoyed the performance by the antagonist.

    The Cabin in the Woods.

-If you haven't seen this film. Watch it. Also, do NOT read the spoilers, it will totally ruin your experience of this film!

I heard that a lot of people hated this movie. I saw people on my facebook writing "Cabin in the Woods was trout, not scary at all" well, they totally missed the point of the movie.

Wow. I LOVED this. This was so original, I loved the concept behind it, and I loved each of the characters. It had all the horror movie archetypes but there was an explanation for that which I really liked, and I connected with all of the characters, but my favourite was without a doubt, Marty (played by the excellent Fran Kranz) (SPOILER)I was so annoyed when they killed him off (SPOILER) but bloody ecstatic when he turned out to not be dead!

It has so many classic horror techniques, a few scary scenes here and there - but mostly this film is a bit of a thinker, and a really cool mystery flick. Also happy to see some Whedonverse appearances from Amy Acker, Tom Lenk and Fran Kranz!

I also loved the ending. In fact, I just loved everything about this film. I honestly don't know what else I could ask for in a film these days. 10/10

    Please watch this!

    Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

Yes, I know. But I was folding laundry (a lot of laundry) so I decided to put this on to help pass the time. Yeesh, what a bad movie. It completely justifies the financial disaster it caused for Square.

Visuals. I actually thought the rendered environments were quite pretty, but the human characters were disturbing as hell and a great representation of the 'uncanny valley'. Aki's character in particular had a very odd design to her and I was put off whenever she was on screen (which was pretty much the whole time).

Characters. Man, what a bland bunch of trope characters. The soldiers in particular were pretty bad, and their dialogue could have easily been copied directly from several different action movies. Stoic captain, check. Wisecraker, check. Token black guy, check. Tomboy lady soldier, check. So cheesy and predictable. Not even the greatness of Steve Buschemi or Alec Baldwin could save them. I actually didn't mind the characterization of Aki and Cid. I mean, I didn't like Aki at all, but her characterization was ok. And Cid was a little bit crazy and I liked that. I actually thought the villain played by James Woods had more of an edge to him than any of the good guys and he was my favorite character.

Plot. This was the worst part of all, which made the movie the worst of all, since plot is usually pretty important. The plot made no sense! There are 8 spirits in random places? Why 8? Where did they come from? Gaia? The Earth itself is alive? Ok, I guess, but you would think all the drilling and deforestation we did to her before the aliens got there would have pissed her off already. Speaking of aliens, so you have phantom aliens coming from some random planet and sucking people's souls and once you find out they're ghosts that just magically explains everything? Ghosts is the explanation? And you're cool with that? And the Gaia earth spirit whatever stops them how? And how can any kind of weapon hurt ghosts anyway? And how can they suck souls? And grfjsdfhsdlfhsd

I don't know what Square was expecting when they made this movie. At most it would have been a cult favorite with their die-hard fans. No way this could have been a commercial hit. An adult computer animated movie is not the recipe for 'blockbuster'. So I'm not sure what they wanted, but they sure didn't achieve it with that.

    Evil Dead, the remake.

    1/5

Smurfing horrible, not scary in any way, shape or form. Complete gorefest and an utter waste of time. 1/5 because I found some of the 'scary' moments comical at least. spoilerOh, and watch out for the tree rape, if I wanted to watch tentacle rape porn I'd just watch hentai online and save myself the $20 thank you.

    SCARY MOVIE V

I wanted to see Evil Dead, but my bf wanted to see Scary Movie V instead, so we went to see that crap. I had low expectations, but my God was this horrible. No explanation even necessary.

    2/10

    THE NEW WORLD

    5/10

I also finally got around to finishing The New World. Before even knowing that it was a Terrence Malick movie I said, "this seems very Terrence Malick". He loves people staring, internal monologue, and long yet beautiful shots of the wilderness. I tried watching this film when it was first released, but I was too immature and impatient to want to deal with. After watching it again in my 20s I have newfound respect for it, but I can't get past the fact that it really is just a 2+ hour long music video.

The music—primarily composed by Avatar composer, James Horner —was good, but you can tell it was put in so that people wouldn't become so bored by the pace of the film. It's no wonder why this film had 4 editors. Still, as a love story it was good. I'm not entirely sure why Colin Farrell didn't do a British accent as he was supposed to be playing the English Settler, John Smith, but Bale and the woman who plays Pochantas were good at least. Overall, I'm 50/50 on this. Terrence is definitely an acquired taste.

    8 out of 10

A great movie. It really portrayed the struggle with discrimination that Jackie Robinson had to deal with when he crossed over into the majors. The only thing I didn't really like was that it felt short. The movie might have actually been long, but when it was over I still wanted to see more. The movie didn't show much of him before he was being crossed over into the major leagues which I was a little disappointed with. Y'all should definitely go see it.

Also saw this for my media studies class. Man what a ball of limburger cheese. That movie was straight bougie.

    4/5

Totally blown away. A complete mindrape. Not a mindsmurf. A freakin mindrape. First it gently smurfed my mind taking its time and making it feel nice and then it just turned my mind around and put its whole fist up my bum until I cried amazing tears. Of what? I have no freakin idea.

If you enjoy being "mindraped", as you put it, check out Enter the Void. The movie would probably be more coherent if you ate some peyote first, too.
