This is kind of a late reply, but FF7 PC and FF7 PS are not exactly the same experience. They actually doubled the resolution on the PC version so the sprites are much smoother. IMO it looks quite a bit better.

I think it's pretty! Here are some screenies of the steam release. The character textures are nice and crisp looking, but the backgrounds are the same so you have these bright vivid polygon people with pixelated furniture. Also there is this weird glitch where all of the NPCs mouths are gaping open. Party members and a few plot relevant NPCs are immune.

    Jinx, Jesswee:
(I like that smiley, btw. Dunno if that shows.)

Fun factoid: FF7 release actually benefits from ATI's morphological AA-filter. First game I ever observed that!

h.h.h.h.ha I DID NOT KNOW THIS.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

Coulda had the same graphics for 15 years now playing it on an emulator, while enjoying a better soundtrack.

I haven't noticed any differences in the soundtrack so far aside from the cursor sound effects, but I'm only as far as Wall Market.

I think it's a hoax. They just don't want us to enjoy it on the PC :P

I read that they fixed the sound later because so many people were upset about it.

The dynamic range is much smaller on the re-release's soundtrack, making all the tracks sound super flat. It's noticable right from the start of the game. But if what Jinx said is true, I guess it's all good now.
