Default The Bane of Summer - Sunburn

I've had my first sunburn of the year. It was by no means the worst burn I've ever had, but Mr. Carny was aghast I could be burned on a cloudy day (UV rays can pass through clouds, you dolt) and immediately assumed my pasty white Irish heritage to blame. I'm not sure what's going to be worse: the risk of skin cancer or the Leprechaun jokes.

But I'm digressing. Sunburn. Awful stuff. I'm in the incredibly annoying 'itchy' phase where the skin is healing but is creating this distracting itch in the process. Mercifully, it's only on the arms. Facial sunburn is both the most damaging and most embarrassing sunburn you can get, I think.

I don't have any horror stories though. I don't holiday in hot countries (which is probably for the best), but have you guys experienced blistering holiday sunburn?

You know, when I was making this thread I was thinking to myself how soon you'd respond with that.

How long did that particular sunburn last for? It looked ridiculously bad.

When I was at the tail end of High School I went to the beach with family friends. I did put on sun screen and attempt to protect myself, but it wasn't enough. I was burned so badly that my chest and shoulders were basically bubbles for a few days, and it was fun trying to sleep. I made the same mistake again years later (sometime in 2006 I want to say) when I visited an old High School friend and we hung out in her pool. No idea how badly I got burned that time because we honestly didn't spend that much time outside in the pool. Regardless I still have freckles on my shoulders from those times.

So there was one time we went to Barcelona where we spent all week touring, and then on the last day, just before the flight, we were like "Hey guys, we didn't really go to the beach."

So we went. Too bad we forgot we were dead tired. And so, we fell asleep.

I had quite the month after that, I'll tell you what

It IS because of your pasty Irishness, you leprechaun! I was in just as much sun, and I didn't burn. Anywho, I haven't had a BAD sunburn in years. I think the worst time ever was when I was in Egypt. I think I was 8 at the time. I forgot to put on sun cream one day, and I got pretty damn burned. Then, the very next day, it turned out I had an allergy to the anti-mosquito spray we were using. Pretty painful combo.

I play a lot of cricket so sunburn can become a problem. I don't actually burn that badly though. Normally along my ever-evaporating hairline, and annoyingly my lips burn to a frazzle but I refuse to wear any of that white stuff that the Australians wear which makes them look like a pillock. British stiff upper lip melanoma for me, thanks.

Nah, I tan like a Greek God. I may go a little red on the first day but by the next morning I'm Golden Brown, texture like sun.

No doubt when I'm older I'll be a wrinkly old fart.

I don't really mind getting sunburn, and my skin is porcelain pale. I keep cold aloe vera in the fridge and it makes a HUGE difference. Feels soooo good and smells good too.

The worst sunburn I ever got involve sun blisters. All over my shoulders. Felt like needles all over my skin.

I haven't had a sunburn in years. I'll get red and itchy for an evening, then be perfectly okay the next day. Thank you desert adventures! I haven't worn sunscreen since my mom made me as a little boy.

It's started to get quite warm where I live right now - I have been walking around in T-shirts the last few days, and it must be more than +75°F - and it does feel like I could get burned if I stay out for too long at a time.

But to be perfectly frank, a day like this is worth a few sunburns.

This is what it has started to look like in northern Sweden recently, and it's awesome.
I also love how the nights never really get dark, even now at 12:10 AM it's bright enough to read a newspaper outside easily without any extra lightning.

First of her name and Mother of Sass.

I had a really bad sunburn on the back of my neck once that only hurt when I touch it, but it didn't bother me all that much.
