Default What's the most you ever wrote?

For some strange, unknown reason I've been getting a weird writing itch lately, and I have a structure of a story figured out already and all that. I used to get great grades on creative writing when I was in high school, so I feel like I could do it, but it's really tough knowing where to start. It got me wondering what the longest thing is that I wrote in any vague semblence of coherency. The latter cuts out the notes on the world I've been building for the past 26 years as they're scattered and drafty.

It dawned on me, though, that the most I ever wrote was back when I had penpals in my teenage years, particularly my cousin. I even wrote a 100 page letter to her once! We started off small and eventually, by responding to each other's letters while also adding in stuff of our own, we ended up writing longer and longer letters. I'm pretty sure the last letter I wrote to her was a literal school exercise book instead of basic pages. I still have binders full of feathers from my stepcousin, cousin and my cousin's three friends from back in that era.

But for creative writing, I fear I've never really gone longer than I had to for a high school activity or exam. Fingers crossed this little itch will turn into something complete, but knowing me, it might take some years to figure out how I want it to be.

I was the same, as a teen I wrote nearly every day, and I loved making fanfics or fantasy stories based on whatever games I was playing or books I was reading. I've had my idea for a novel for years now and while I've written bits and pieces I haven't really put much effort into it.

Are you hoping to write a complete novel? Or just experimenting with writing to see where it takes you?

I'd like to. I at least have the story in my head, and hundreds of pages of notes. Fleshing it out into actual prose is the hard part... For now I'm doing research by reading old letters from when I was younger, as one of the characters is in their teens and I want to ensure I'm making them realistic in their way of talking, both with family and strangers.

Hey, that's a start! I'm in the same spot, the ideas and the notes, but nothing too substantial yet. It's always a good idea to connect with your younger self!
Have you read anything my Julia Cameron, The Artist's Way or Write for Life?
It's prety woo-woo but she gives good advice on letting go of inhibitions and leading a more creative life. I'm in a book club for Artist's Way now and it's great just to share ideas and progress with fellow creatives.

Alas, I am guilty of struggling to read a book to completion. I have read the first half of two different books in the past five or more years. I just get very sleepy from them, and am a very visual person these days - I love shows and manhwa. I don't expect my book, should I get to writing it, will be very good or really with the intention of publication. Just a hobby, like that (unrelated) world I've spent 26 years building and still am far from done.

60 pages is my longest. Maybe one day I'll get back to it. I also have various other things I've started and never finished. I enjoy writing, but like a lot of things I enjoy, there is no time for it.
