I gotta agree on this one.

At first I was like YES and then the details came and I realized it was still an NES port. Honestly, if you're going to do something like this, you gotta go all out, and that means making the music and tiles/sprites.

If anything it exposes the harsh reality that FFVII could not have been possible on NES, possibly even SNES. For one, the only thing that ever really moved in these installments were the characters, or a ship/airship, but they really were sprites that moved just like your characters. Because of this, it creates such a long list of events that you simply cannot have, and restricts the possible story sequences to a very small thing.

Every event when encountering your enemy in the story, you either walk up to them or they'll walk up to you. There's no way for Tseng to show up on a helicopter like when the plate falls, there's no way for the plate to fall period or for reactor 1 blow up.

The fact that there's no Red XIII means that this attempt automatically sucks. I'd like to see the one for X, though.

Red XIII is there.

This happens in the 8-bit games.

but they did omit Yuffie and Vincent, cut the game at the 3rd disc, and the entire ending sequence is all text... by all rights this is a remake be it an illegal/unofficial remake but a remake none the less, as it is not using the original graphics, music, battle/materia systems or even anything remotely resembeling these elements... on top of it being an illegal remake the leveling systems for Char.Lvl., Mag.Lvl., & Materia Lvl. are all horribly unbalanced, it would seem not enough thaught was given to the ideas... the basic ideas of magic and weapon growth are good but they didn't really think it through in terms of overall balance which causes an ungodly amount of grinding to be made necessary... i'm a power leveler, Cloud is always Lvl.20 before leaving Midgar and Lvl.30-35 by time i reach Junon, but the way the review describes this thing i don't think i would want to grind as much as this thing requires... and of course the final rip off, almost everything is lifted graphicaly from FFII...

(saved Graphics for last since they are the least important)

do you mean it would show a helicopter fly up with tseng standing on top of it, with Aeris standing next to him? I'd like to see a video of that.

You know this kind of reminds me of that FFX NES game some Japanese guys made a while ago. It looked better then this in terms of graphics matching the original. But this one has nice face pictures.

we were talkin about this in the FFII forum, but all we could come up with was a few youtube videos. They were all very well done, though. Any other info on this?

It's been a long time since I last saw it, I was reading some website that talked about the game and how it replicated so much of FFX. I'm fairly certain I found it somewhere here on EoFF ages ago. The sprites were really awesome though. Looked so much like the characters.

The Aeris-Sephiroth scene (http://cinnamonpirate.com/img/8bitff7.gif) is rather humourous in this style :p

This is possibly the slowest web page i have ever attempted to load. I've been at it for 10 minutes now, while 8 of them were spent loading the page/screenshots.

I think it is unfortunate that they limited the battle system to three characters. I have seen mock screenshots of Final Fantasy VII in Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy VI style and both use four characters in the screenshots, and I think that would add a lot to a potential retelling of the storyline — because there is no real reason that four characters cannot travel together other than the gameplay restrictions.
