So this was brought to my attention, an artist from Costa Rica picked a dog off the street and starved him until he died.
You can read about it here:

"Artist" starves a dog to death as a work of art | AMP: Artists' Meeting Place & Resource Collective (http://pluginamp.com/network/node/3575)

There are always arguments about what is considered art, and I feel that killing a defenseless animal definitely doesn't qualify as art.

Where do you draw the line when it comes to art?

Thoughts.

Far before there. The concept may be presentable as "art": but to execute it is simply unacceptable.

Wasn't there a thread on this already? I'm sure I've seen it before...

There's nothing artistic about that. It's just exploiting a defenseless animal for attention(and possibly profit).

It's not like there aren't a thousand dogs that have already died of starvation floating around. if you HAVE to have a dead bony dog, you might as well find one that's already died.

This makes me think of those cow carcasses on display at wherever it was

I think livid is the term most appropriate to describe my feelings about this.

There is a video on youtube showing the dog 'on display', so it is very real.
I think showing an already dead dog and tying up a dying dog and refusing it food when you could surely feed him is really different.
Its so horrible :/

Considering he took it off the street, there's always a possibility it would've just died anyway. At least this way it's actually being used for something. It's pretty crappy though, since it's just tied to a little piece of string stuck to a plug socket.

OOC: Scrolling past the pictures of the dog, there's a jug-thing with a face, and it's fucking epic.

This passed by digg.com a few days ago and it's fake. Quote from Digg - "There has been a huge deal of outrage over a story that shows an artist who starved a dog to death as his art exhibit. But according to the museum director, they were actually feeding the dog and eventually released it. They simply wanted to prove that people are sheep."

This article explains it better - Translated version of http://www.laprensa.com.ni/archivo/2007/octubre/05/noticias/revista/219438.shtml (http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.laprensa.com.ni%2Farchivo%2F2007%2Foctubre%2F05%2Fnoticias%2Frevista%2F 219438.shtml&langpair=es%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8)

It was posted here on Digg -

Edit: Haha Azar totally beat me to it...That's what I get for not completely reading through the thread:D
