Anyone here a fan of the Showtime Original Series, Dexter?

If so I hope you're ready for Season 3. It premieres on September 28th.

Season 1 was fresh, innovative, and exhilarating. I didn't think Season 2 could top what was accomplished in Season 1 but it did. Season 3 looks like it might leave me completely breathless. If you don't know what I mean, why don't you see for yourself?

What's the show about? Maybe I can rent some DVDs.

Are you too cheap for the internet? :P

It's about a serial killer who has learned to curb his 'addiction' (for lack of a better word) so that instead of just randomly killing people, he kills other killers. :P The whole "Dark Passenger" thing can get pretty cheesy at times, but it's a great show. (Again, I haven't seen season 2. xP)

My friend saw a clip from Six Feet Under and someone told him it was a preview for Dexter Season 3. He was heartbroken at how awful it looked. xD

Season 1: Amazing, but Dexter's back story was kinda predictable.
Season 2: Shocking! I just truly can't believe the plot twists that occurred in this one. I look forward to Season 3. :)

Funnily enough, I've been addicted to the OST. Except the weird Mexican <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" />. I'm totally not into that. Jon Licht and Daniel Licht is good stuff though.

I love the soundtrack too, even the Cuban and Hispanic influenced music. I'm probably just biased though because I love this show so much.

For those who have yet to catch season 2, you're in for quite a ride. Also anyone familiar with the show feel free to discuss anything from the characters you like/dislike, to predictions about season 3, or anything of that nature. Don't forget about those spoiler tags.

Upcoming Spoilers (Up to the end of Season 2)
I wasn't sure how I felt about Doakes getting axed but the way it was handled where Dexter didn't have a physical hand in it just blew me away (no pun intended).

Jimmy Smits enters Season 3 as Miguel Prado, an Assistant District Attorney. With his background as an actor, I think he can bring a lot to the show. As far as predictions, I really don't have a clue. Even with the preview we can only know so much. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know. Dexter has a pretty strong set of morals for a serial killer.

The character Dexter in the books is so much more entertaining, but the series is enjoyable in its own way (a better story, for one thing, and better characters outside of Dexter).

I do look forward to season 3 (and the fourth book, hoping that Lindsay recognizes that the 3rd book was terrible).

I can't wait, Dexter is my favourite—running—show. About not following Harry's code anymore, I don't think it's gonna be that bad. He's got his own morals, after all—it will be exciting to see to what extent he will hang on to them. The series definitely needs to continue to evolve lest it becomes dull, so I'm very excited to see what new scenarios they can conjure up.

As for Prado, as much as I loved the Doakes–Dexter dynamics, they had to end it. I hope to see Prado become "the workplace threat" but in a new fashion. They can't just go over the same thing again, that's what runs series down the toilet. Change = yes please.

Okay, so me and my friend watched the entire first season last Sunday, and I must say that I've become a fan of the show!

The first episode was pretty quality. The previews they showed afterward for this season also looked pretty intense. I think we are in for another helluva roller coaster ride.

For discussion sake:
They kept throwing out hints that Miguel Prado suspects Dexter or knows that he might be hiding something. I'm really interested to see how Miguel and Dexter's relationship evolves throughout the season

As long as he doesn't become a carbon copy of Doakes. Doakes was one helluva character, possibly one of my favourite supporting roles ever, and I hated that he had to go, but he did. And I'll damn sure miss him in the show, but I don't want to see the same thing get repeated just with another character. But I have faith in the writers. They haven't disappointed me so far. :)

I really liked the episode. Prado is pretty cool, he seems like a more interesting Doakes type character. I think it is cool what they're doing with Dexter and him breaking the code, and how he went to Prado's brother's wake and he saw all the people his murder affected. Pretty coooool.

Also Rita's pregnancy = lol. I love how they revealed it.

Yeah, that was my fault. I didn't recall exactly how many episodes there were, just that the DVD set has 4 discs and the first disc has 4 episodes. So I kinda just put it together as each disc having four episodes.

I've started to. The writing is fairly predictable and I don't agree with how they presented a few of his murders, they just seemed a little be unrealistic. Particularly in the fifth episode (Human Trafficking guy). You can't dump a body-shaped bag in the middle of the day. Other than those and a few other odd behavioral things, I think I am starting to like the show.

Regarding episode 3x2: Wow, things are sure taking a turn for the interesting. I can imagine what happened in the end will be the predominant theme for the season. This also removes my fear of Prado becoming a carbon copy of Doakes, which is great.

I tried watching the show a few times, but I could never really get into it. But I buckled down and I was determined to give it a chance. It's a show that's a little difficult to like right away, but like someone else said, it really grows on you. To the point where I look back on the first season and I think, "wow, that was really fantastic" even though I wasn't thinking that as I was watching it.

Third season isn't really doing anything for me anymore. I know it's just started but I feel like they've exhausted a lot of the really intriguing storylines already. It's starting to get formulaic. And Dexter is starting to be a little too normal. I liked it better when he was this completely detached sociopath. But now his conscience seems to be getting bigger and bigger and he's becoming more sociable with every episode.

Rantz
10-08-2008, 08:37 PM
I'm enjoying the mental adventure that is Dexter's mind, though. I love seeing him adapt to new situations (like when meeting Prado in the latest episode, for example). Although I agree that there is a limit to how far his "humanity", "normality" or morals can be taken before the show becomes dull, it wouldn't be any fun without change and character development.

Yeah he is, but how many serial killers do you see that are actually attractive?

I think I'm beginning to like Prada more than Doakes, which I didn't think would be possible. I wonder what Dexter and Prada's new "bond" will affect.

Also, wtf @ Rita. When she came to Dexter in eppy 2 she was like, "I would be stupid to have this baby" or something. And then she was all, "But I'm keeping it". He/She is probably gonna be a little serial killer...they start off killing small rodents and stuff.

Ahaha this week's episode has left me wanting next week NOW. The teaser for the next episode fooled me at first though: I thought Prado was sending the police after Dexter, as in Prado setting Dexter up. I looked again and noticed he was sending them after the other soon-to-be victim, presumably as a part of the plan.

Then again, I doubt the "partnership" will be long lasting. :p Prado has not yet seen Dexter's rituals or his bloodlust. That might turn him off like it turned Harry off.

I think they finally blew open this season of Dexter and my mouth has begun to water for more.

I'm enjoying the current plot developments:
-Conflict with Ramon and the Miami Metro PD
-Deb seems like she could end up with this Anton guy
-The emergence of another serial killer out there aka The Skinner
-Dexter and Miguel's evolving relationship
-The weird/trippy flashbacks Dexter has from time to time that involve Harry
-Cha cha cha changes! (I love when they played some classic Bowie)

I also found that mini-plot with Masuka quite endearing and of course comical. It goes to show that the little guys still matter.

Also I miss Captain Matthews. They haven't showed him once and it doesn't seem like he's going to show up at all this season! It doesn't seem like LaGuerta has been playing much of a significant role either.

Overall it was a pretty solid season. This season seemed more of an internal journey for Dexter, and maybe even an "emotional" one if you want to call it that. There were lots of developments and they left a few things cliffhanging for next season.

I was a little disappointed with the season finale. It didn't have that "Holy <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" />!" moment that you would usually expect out of a season finale episode.
